Now it all happens again on a mighty scale... the vast armies pouring out of mountains... sweeping across the plains! The beseiged handful fighting to stem the tide! The bombarding cannon... the storm of shot and shell... the torn flags lifted again and again by the raging men who stood and fought and made the world remember! All to be seen in 'THE ALAMO', now playing at the Gables Theatre.

Notes On the World Heavyweight Championship Fight
Ex-heavyweight champ Joe Louis due in Florida for a golf tournament this month — plans to visit the Palm Beach camp of challenger Ingemar Johansson and the Miami Beach camp of champion Floyd Patterson. * * * Architect Lionel Levy, designer of Madison Square Garden in 1925, and 58 year old, is laying out his 35th heavyweight championship ringside. * * * Recording challenger Ingemar Johansson's daily workouts on film costs the Swede close to $500 per week — what the camera's eye records must be valuable to Ingo if he feels it's worth that much money. * * * Champion Floyd Patterson's ambition is to retire, buy a farm and raise horses... he's a top notch expert on horseflesh, too... Challenger Ingemar Johansson's ambition is to obecome a movie actor. * * * A change of pace at photo sessions around Ingo's training camp — Johansson, an amateur photographer since early youth always asks to snap one picture for the pro cameramen before the session is through.
Japan's northern island of Hokkaido is the crowded nation's last frontier, the National Geographic Society says. In an effort to develop Hokkaido's resources, the Government has appropriated nearly $500,000,000 since 1952 and resettled some 10,000 families there.

Bernard Weksler Files For Commission Seat
By MAURICE LABELLE A frequent critic of Coral Gables City Commission policies announced his candidacy for the Commission today. He is Bernard B. Weksler, 39-year-old Gables attorney, accountant and businessman. Weksler said he will campaign as an independent candidate on the principles of "good, strong, honest city government." He became the second person to announce for the April 11 Municipal election. Charles R. Berry, an automotive parts distributor, filed recently. First Appearance Weksler made his first appearance on the local political scene in July 1959 when he went before the City Commission to urge the reinstatement of Tax Assessor Thomas C. Blount as a department head. This was in support of a move by Commissioner Joe Murphy which ultimately resulted in reinstatement of Blount Feb. 7. Since that time Weksler has appeared before the City and Metro Commissions frequently to protest certain policies or contemplated legislation. These appearances ranged from complaints about alleged tax freeloading by certain institutions, protesting the proposal to turn over operation of the Granada Golf Course to private interests, complaining about the inequity of golf fees at the two municipal courses to lending support to Commissioner Murphy's conflict of interest referendum proposal. The Commission subsquently launched an investigation into tax freeloading, dropped the plan to turn over the Granada Golf Course operation to a private group, "equalized" fees, adopted a conflict of interest ordinance and appointed Weksler to the newly created Recreation Advisory Board. Weksler said in announcing that Coral Gables needs "improved and additional recreational facilities, parks and picnic areas, a new and adequate library building, improved roads and street lighting." "Coral Gables should not only be known as 'The City Beautiful'," Weksler said, "but it should also be known and eventually achieve the reputation and distinction of being the cultural center of the South." Weksler said that he will announce his campaign platform in the weeks to come and that it will contain "specific programs instead of broad generalities." He indicated he will seek "a strong conflicts of interest provision in the City Charter and strong enforcement of present zoning regulations. Weksler resides with his wife and two daughters, Ronnie Joy, 14, and Marla June, 9, at 435 Luenga. He was born and reared in Chicago and attended public schools there. He was Chicago All-City and Illinois All-State high school basketball player and was awarded a basketball scholarship to DePaul University. Weksler was graduated from DePaul in 1942 with a bachelor of science degree with a major in accounting. He entered the U.S. Air Force during World War II, during which time he served as commandant of a prisoner of war camp. After the war, he re-entered DePaul, received a doctor of law degree in 1948 and was admitted to the Illinois Bar. He moved to Miami in 1950, where he was admitted to the Florida Bar, and to Coral Gables in 1955. Weksler is a member of the Dade County Bar Association, Florida Bar Association, and the Public Utility and Municipal Law sections of the American Bar Association. He is also a member of the Mahi Shrine Temple, Scottish Rite Temple and a 32nd Degree Mason; a delegate to the Senior Citizens Division, Dade County Welfare Planning Council and a member of the executive board of the Jewish Family Childrens Service Agency of the United Fund of Dade County. Junior Orange Bowl Officers Are Elected
New officers for 1961 were elected by the Junior Orange Bowl Committee in a meeting at the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce last Monday. By unanimous vote, William L. Gale, a vice president of the Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Co., was named the new Junior Orange Bowl president. Gale served as vice president of this civic celebration during the past year. Warren L. Blackmon, an executive of radio station WVCG, was elected vice president of the youth activity for 1961. William C. Swain, vice president of Florida National Bank at Coral Gables, was re-elected treasurer. Retiring president Larry Larimore expressed his pride in the outstanding success of the 1960 celebration. He offered the opinion that no other activity of Coral Gables brought so much favorable publicity to the city at such modest cost. Dates of the principal events in the 1961 Junior Orange Bowl Celebration have been set. The queen will be chosen on Dec. 16. The Junior Orange Bowl football game will be played the evening of Dec. 27. The parade will be held on Dec. 28, with the annual Youth Ball taking place that same evening.
Free Almanac Spans Years In Communication
Methods of communication spanning the years from ancient Persian runners to space age satellites are featured in the new 1961 Telephone Almanac, now being distributed in Miami. Copies of the booklet are available at the Coral Gables telephone business office, according to Bill Gale, district manager for Southern Bell. The Overland Express, messages carried by gas-filled balloons and the first undersea telegraph cable in 1866 are other early methods of communication described in the almanac.
