By LESLIE GROSS Correspondent Gables High School walked away with four out of 12 Silver Knight awards given in Dade County. William Zame, Warren Kirsch, Joel Eaton and Leslie Gross received the scholastic Oscars at the awards presentation held at Dade County Auditorium last Thursday. The Silver Knight awards are given to the top student in each of 12 categories in Dade senior high schools. One hundred and nine nominees were up for the awards. Winners in each division received $200 and a silver knight trophy. Three runners-up in each category received $50. Gables High School had four winners. The next highest total was two, shared by Beach High and Miami High. Coral Gables also had three runners-up. They were Bruce Fischer in althetics, Maxine Master in foreign languages, and Richard Ginn in music. Bill Zame, 15, son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Zame, 914 Palermo, won in the field of mathematics. Highlighting the meet was the near-record performance of our relay squad composed of Clein, Schultz, Caffee, and Magruder. Jeffrey Mark Platt and William R. Zame have been announced valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively, of Gables 1961 graduating class. Jeffery, with a 4.89 scholastic average, outdistanced all competition.
