Event Nets $$$ Three Win Honors At Plaza's 'Fair'
Three gold trophies were the spoils of the "Country Fair" collected Saturday evening by the Ixora Garden Club, Boy Scout Troop 12 and Cub Scout Pack 66 at the Central Shopping Plaza. The three organizations were selected from a field of 18 two weeks ago during the "Country Fair" at Central. They won for "Best Decorated," "Action and Display," and "Entertainment." Mrs. H. W. Michaels, Mrs. Phyllis Locke and Mrs. Vida Metzger, representing the Ixora Garden Club, accepted the first place trophy for "Best Decorated." The club's booth at the Country Fair featured a white elephant sale, highlighted by the sale of an ivory knife set from Africa. For Boy Scout Troop 12, Mr. E. E. Parron, Mr. D. Harris and Mr. V. Finocarro received the first place trophy for "Action and Display." The troop, sponsored by Moose Lodge No. 1597, built its own booth at the fair and decorated it with Indian folklore. A series of interpretive "Indian War Dances" at the Central Shopping Plaza during the fair weekend, April 27-29, won for Cub Scout Pack 66 the first place prize in "Entertainment." Mr. R. Coffman, cub master, received the trophy. The "Country Fair," sponsored by the Central Merchants Association for local civic organization, was rated a success by participants after netting hundreds of dollars in total for the non-profit organizations. The success spurred Central Shopping Plaza officials into announcing that the "Country Fair" will be a semi-annual event, incorporating all the civic and non-profit organizations in the area.
