South Miami OKs Budget
Continued from Page 1 the third and final reading of the ordinance. However, the largest increases were to the fire department, the recreation department, the department of sanitation streets and public buildings and the police department. In a letter to the public and the Council which accompanied the budget, City Manager Petry said: EFFORT MADE ". . . every effort has been made to expand and improve the services rendered the citizens and taxpayers of South Miami, at the lowest possible millage rate consistent with sound financial planning. "At the same time, improved police protection, greatly improved fire protection (with a further reduction in fire insurance rates for property owners), additional public works facilities and expanded recreation and park projects are included. "Waste and duplication of effort are reduced to an absolute minimum."
West of City Limits
Continued from Page 1 seven numeral operation. The remainder of the area will be redialed by next March. ★ ★ ★ ON THE TRACK: The Florida Athletic Club has shifted its Sunday track clinics to Moore Park. The Sunday sessions are open to any male or female interested in track competition. Vin Lally of South West Miami is club director. ★ ★ ★ CALL OF THE WILD: The one thing which appeals most to nature lovers in Miami is their proximity to the Everglades. Every summer groups organize tours to view wildlife in its natural environs. This year is no exception. The National Audubon Society announces it will begin its regular willlife tours to famous Duck Rock starting June 24. Duck Rock is a three-acre mangrove key where thousands of egrets and other herons come to roost each evening. The South Florida Fishing Club is sponsoring a "wilderness cruise" through the Everglades over July Fourth. And guided tours through Everglades National Park will soon be in full swing. The only suggestion we can make for these tours is that you bring along mosquito repellent.
