24 SW Honor Students Tapped
By JOY CHERRY Correspondent Before the parents of the honored students, the National Honor Society at Southwest High School tapped 19 girls and five boys Oct. 24, at a tea held in the foyer of the auditorium. New members were chosen for leadership and character, as well as for a 3.8 average or better. Among those tapped were Margaret Bizub, Joy Lee Cherry, Constance Feltham, Joan Rodriquez, Ruth Schildkraut, Kenneth Frishman, Ronnie Rosenfeld, Nancy Degroff, Jacqueline Stahl, Mary Frances Daugherty, Barbara Mary Young and Althea Crawford. Others were Sharon Campbell, Katherine Valletta, Carol Boutilier, Elaine Schafer, Richard Feiertag, Carol Holmes, Robin Mason, Theodore Schurch Jr., Karen Bobkoff, Janet Biebel, Russell Bizette and Neil Goforth. The Freedom Shrine, consisting of replicas of famous American historical documents and other patriotic medals and awards received by the school, was formally presented to Southwest at the membership tea. Mrs. Adelaide McKim, who has sponsored N.H.S. since Southwest opened conducted the ceremonies. Student teachers will aide T.V. classes by conducting small discussion groups for students in English 10 T.V. These assistants will meet once or twice a week with pupils wishing extra help in grammar, themes, and verbal discussions. Those participating are Nancy Lynch, JoAnn Meyer, Peggy Lee, Gene Beckwith, Laura Beckwith, Doris Lazarony, Maria Brea, and Susan Beckett. Others include Joel Landsman, Paul Philhour, Steve Ackerman, Walter Fisher, Bob Guardiola, Nancy Carver, David Spector, Kathy Glenn, Esther Sneed, Susan Kiltie, Cheryl Gorman, Bill Sax, Jan Glidewell, Michael Schneider, Allen Smith, Andy Marcus, Jeanne Carrol, Sheryl West, Martin Motes, Christa Bortfield, Nancy Dinin, Ronnie Rosenfeld, Anita Constant, Linda Lyman, Sheila Reed, Chris White and Patsy e.Doyle. Southwest's Science Research Class under the guidance of Mr. Stanley Loupus was invited recently to attend the science laboratory at the University of Miami. The class will receive help from the Physics Department on writing science research papers. Visits to the Chemistry Department, the Weather Bureau and the Seaquarium are also being planned.
