By JOY CHERRY Correspondent A big job has been placed on the shoulders of the four selected to lead the sophomore class at Southwest High School, Robert Kelley is president; Betty Perry, vice president; Susan Nash, secretary; and Howard [?i?ger], treasurer. They have the responsibility of leading 1,500 sophomores, the largest number ever at Southwest. This year her interests are turned toward swimming and the progress of the sophomore class. As secretary, Susan Nash is an old hand at the job. Last year she was secretary of the steering committee at Riviera Junior High helping with the planning of the prom and other activities. She was award-ed the American Legion Award and was active in school plays. Susan is an honor stu-dent at Southwest taking both honors English and honors Bio-logy. Homecoming, under the direction of Juliette Heisser and Russell Brizette, will be kicked off Nov. 22 with the parade routed through Coral Gables and South Miami. The Queen, to be announced earlier that day in the Lancer, will make her first public ap-pearance on a special float de-signed by Chip Mirman in the parade. Also riding on the Queen's float will be her attendants, four elected from the senior class, junior class, and sopho-more class. The five girls from which the queen will be selected by the entire school are Maryann Luther, Juliette Heisser, San-dra Marchinsky, Sheryl Stod-dard and Frances Opitz. Featured floats in the pa-rade are the Southwest Band, two twirling units, the queen and attendants, numerous oth-er floats and cars. Terry Guthrie, Bill Este, and Luke Crawford are directing the parade activities. Winston Jones, who is in charge Home-coming says over 80 units are expected in the parade. Following the parade, a bon-fire traditional of Southwest Homecoming will be held on the school grounds at 7 p.m. Don-na Fouch is making arrange-ments for this section of the festivities. Southwest Eagles will meet the Coral Gables Cavaliers in the Coral Gables stadium for the annual turkey day game. At that time, the court and its queen will be officially present-ed to a Thanksgiving Day crowd. A halftime program will be produced by the band and majorettes. The Everglades Hotel ball-room will have an air of au-tumn, November 23 where the Homecoming dance will be staged, under the supervision of Sally Kitchen. Live music will be furnished by Don Vicent while vocalist Peggy Lee sings. The dance, where the Queen will be crown-ed is opened to all Southwest students and alumni. The closing of this gala affair will end Homecoming, however the sub-ject will remain on the lips of Southwest students for some time.
