3 Cop Killers Spur New Police Hook-up

A group of Dade cities, including Coral Gables, have joined in a mutual communications net in answer to criticism from Sheriff Tom Kelly following last week's county manhunt for three cop killers. The Gables has joined Miami, Miami Beach and Hialeah in a radio-telephone network they hope will eventually include the county. The county had proposed only a radio net. Kelly has been trying to convince area police forces to come under a county-wide police radio network, but municipalities have balked. Gables officials have stated that the net would be too jammed to be useful. Under the new system adopted by the city, a small control box, hooked up with the telephone system, will enable the cities in the network to be in contact by the simple flick of a switch.

Le Jeune's Nearly Done; RR Tracks Final Stop

The end is near. For all practical purposes, the construction on Le Jeune Road is almost completed. All that remains to be done are the railroad tracks at Blue Road and the area beyond, less than a city block, to Dixie Highway. Papers certifying the agreement between Coral Gables and the Florida East Coast are on their way and work on the crossing gates can begin. The major length of Le Jeune, from just above Blue Road to Tamiami Trail, has been completed.
