Southwest YWCA Strives for 350 Enrollment Goal

Partner members who will be designated "Friends of Youth" will be sought starting today (Thursday) in the annual membership enrollment effort of the Southwest YWCA at 4300 SW 58th Ave. In charge will be Charles F. Sharp, a director of the Y branch. Assisting will be four division heads: Kenneth Thompson, 5511 San Vicente Ave., Coral Gables; Donald Robbins, 443 Giralda Ave., Coral Gables; Fred Stanton Smith, 2801 Natoma Ave., Miami; and William C. Swain, 4350 SW 4th St. Goal of the enrollment effort is 350 members. "Partner members specifically help deserving children to join the YWCA and enter its various programs," says Sharp. "Their support also provides more equipment, and expands facilities — thus making better activities possible for hundreds of youngsters in the Southwest section of Miami." Partner Members may nominate a boy or girl to use the YMCA with the membership provided under the "Friends of Youth" plan, which has been in operation for several years. Contract Awarded

Atlantic Foundation Co. Inc., has been awarded a $92,584 contract by the county for construction of the new 75-boat marina facility at Matheson Hammock Park. Another 75-boat addition will be constructed later. Present boat launching facilities will be utilized, but the entire marina will be moved west of the present site.

South Miami Names Five As Directors

The South Miami Chamber of Commerce has five new directors following the recent election in which 14 candidates vied. They are Ray Mayer, Helen Miller, Al Boaz, George Hardie and Vance Morgan. New chamber officers will be elected at the Feb. 22 meeting. The South Miami Chamber has 200 members. New directors will serve three years. Five directors among the 15 are up for re-election each three years.

Stevens Building On Bird Road

A new Stevens' Supermarket is under construction at 8690 Bird Road. The $181,500, structure is being built by Robert L. Turchin Inc. for Bernard Stevens, the owner. This will be the first Stevens market in that area.

Apartment For SM

A permit has been issued by the City of South Miami for construction of a two-story, 24-unit apartment building at 6330 SW 79th St. Owner is Oak Height Village, Inc. The CBS structure was designed by William M. Friedman. General contractor is Robert E. Couture.
