This year marks the 71st anniversary of the founding of Kinjo Gakuin, the largest educational institution with which the Presbyterian Church is connected, located in Japan. Mr. and Mrs. Merle I. Kelly, missionaries at the school, are supported in their work by the Granada Presbyterian Church in Coral Gables. The Nagoya school has a total enrollment of more than 5000 students in its four departments: junior high school, senior high school, junior college and senior college. To celebrate the anniversary the students devoted a week during the fall to special lectures, plays and musical programs which included everything from ancient Japanese music to swing. Kinjo was founded by Mrs. Annie E. Randolph of the U. S. in 1888. The school is the oldest of the Presbyterian mission institutions in Japan.

5 Years Of Research Gableite Bases Book On Christ, His Teachings
by JOHN SHAPIRO The gap between architect and author may sound formidable to some, but not to Dr. Upton Clary Ewing, 362 Minorca Ave. Dr. Ewing, a member of The American Institute of Architects and designer of many buildings here including the Fuller and Parsons Buildings, is the author of a new religious book "The Essene Christ". The book, which is the result of over five years of intense research into the historical background of early Christianity, deals with the relationship between Christ and His teachings and the ancient Essene sect from Judea. Four Parts The work is divided into four parts, or books and contains recent discoveries from the Dead Sea Scrolls. Dr. Ewing considers "The Essene Christ" to be must reading for every Christian. Interviewed at the Ewing Gallery, in Coral Gables, the doctor confided that he alternates his house slippers between feet because it allows the heels to wear down more evenly. Paintings, Sculpture The Ewing Gallery, which is built around a secluded patio and pond, features paintings and sculpture by the doctor and a large organ that his wife, Loris, plays for concerts. This year the Ewings plan to have Christmas entertainment at the Gallery. Dr. Ewing is also a Metaphysiciart associated with the International New Thought Alliance and an ordained minister whose religion teaches that all men are sons of God and members of a great universal brotherhood. "The Essene Christ" will soon be available at local book stores.
