Ring Theatre To Present 'The Great God Brown'

The University of Miami Ring Theatre will present Eugene O'Neill's "The Great God Brown" as its second major production of the 1960-1961 season, starting Thursday, Dec. 8, and continuing through Saturday, Dec. 17. Directed by Hank Diers, the play will feature a highly unusual production, embodying the use of masks and specially designed scenery. The Ring Theatre's revolving stage will operate in full view of the audience. No curtain is used. Moods are set and scenes changed by the use of angle lighting. Alex Panas plays the lead role of William A. Brown, and is supported by Judith MacEachron, Robert Hathaway and Carol Swenson. Also in the cast are Jack Rawlins, Julie Hutner, Ivan Kivitt, Judith Paulich, Peter Deliz, Richard Ermalinski, Anthony Schnurer, Tony Fabozzi, Carla Miner, June Lucks, Judith Pass, Paul Pesce and Paul Preddy. The play, which was first presented in 1926, is O'Neill's expressionistic attack on modern materialism. The action encompasses about 20 years in the lives of the players, and is staged in 13 scenes. Reservations are now available at the Ring Theatre box office, MO 1-2511, ext. 2787. Tickets are $1.50 each, with a special price of $1 for students. Curtain time is 8 p.m. week nights, and 8:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Noted anthropologist and author Dr. Henry Field will lecture at the University of Miami's Beaumont Lecture Hall at 3:30 p.m. Monday afternoon, Dec. 12. His topic will be "The Adventures of Digging Into the Past." Tickets at the door are $1. The lecture is open to the public.

Amahl Offered Free To Public

The popular modern opera, "Amahl and the Night Visitors," by Gian Carlo Menotti, will be the featured work in a special Christmas season concert to be held 3:30 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 18, in Dade County Auditorium. The concert is the eleventh to be offered annually by Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, national music fraternity, in cooperation with the University of Miami and the Metro Commission. There is no admission charge. Singing the role of Amahl will be 12-year-old Larry Hines, son of Miami Beach orchestra leader George Hines. The program will include performances of traditional and modern Christmas carols.

Miss Haworth Vies With Miss Haworth

Gail Haworth, who plays the part of Dorothy in Studio M's Pied Piper Playhouse production of the "Wizard of Oz," was a serious contender for the part of Karen in "Exodus" which was finally won by Jill Haworth of the same name, same spelling and distantly related. Gail Haworth did appear in the Paddy Chayefsky film, "The Goddess" with Kim Stanley. She is a talented young actress and has moved to Coral Gables from Ft. Lauderdale so that she may attend daily rehearsals at Studio M.
