Blue And White Corner 163 Seniors Are Listed On First Honor Roll

By EUNICE TALL A total of 163 senior high school students made the first Palmetto High School honor roll published for the 1960-61 school year. For recognition, students must have an A average. Several outstanding students made above A averages by obtaining extra points in the special honor classes. A total of 78 junior high students were also recognized for their outstanding scholastic work. The newly organized Palmetto Aviation Club, the Prop Floppers, recently elected officers for this year. They are; Tom Spencer, president; Gayle Morris, vice president; Sherry Smith, secretary; John Wynn, treasurer, and Mike Wedge, organizer. The purpose of the organization is to promote interest in aviation as a hobby as well as a career. Sponsor of the club is Mr. James High, mathematics instructor. Girls' Sports Club After several weeks of pledging and the informal initiation night, Nov. 12, the following girls were admitted as members into the Palmetto Girls' Sports Club: Mary Boymer, Cathy Copley, Pam Jean, Dottie Lee, Amy Riechert and Susie Ross. Officers for this year include Brenda Muhlinghaus, president; Jo Pederson, vice president; Jody King, secretary; Sandy King, treasurer; Marilyn Platt, chaplain; Lexie Grisinger and Susie Straight, historians, and Pam Garrison, sergeant-at-arms. Miss Jimmie Ruth Songer, physical education instructor, is sponsor. Club pins were just selected from several designs submitted by the club "artist" members. The pins are expected to arrive soon. The Big Sound The Big Sound is coming. What's the Big Sound? It's the Gene Roy Jazz Band. The band will be performing at Palmetto High tomorrow night in the auditorium. This event is sponsored by the first Palmetto senior class, the class of 1961. Profits will be used to build the senior project, a senior patio on the south side of the school building. The Palmetto basketball season will officially begin Dec. 13 when the Palmetto team will compete against Key West in our home gymnasium. The nine returning lettermen from previous years are Bruce Meade, Walt Zimmerman, Bill Maddrix, Dennis Ritchie, Eddie Davis, Larry Casey, Joe Sheridan, Bob Hayden and Dave Azzerito. Other teammates are Charlie Rives, Jeff Wright and Bruce Cost.
