News Of The PTA Meetings To Have Holiday Themes
By EUNICE TALL MO 1-2294 December begins the holiday season. For most of the PTA's in the Coral Gables-Southwest section the December PTA meeting is a holiday type program. And the students present the programs for the meetings. * * * The play, Dickens' "Christmas Carol" will be performed by drama students for members of the South Miami Junior High School PTA, Dec. 20, 8 p.m., in the school auditorium. Members of the drama department will be in charge of the entire production. This ranges from publicity to the building of sets for the performance. The program is direct by Mr. C. S. Hartley, teacher. Refreshments will be served in the cafeteria following the program. The same play will be presented to the student body of the school the following day in an assembly program. Cutler Ridge Elementary The program for the December meeting of Cutler Ridge Elementary School will be presented by the children Dec. 13 at 7:30 p.m. in the cafetorium. Thirty children, representing all the grades in the school, will sing various holiday songs appropriate for this time of the year. The program is under the direction of Mrs. Grace Chambers, music instructor. Southwest High School The band, chorus and drama students of Southwest High School will present the Christmas program for the Southwest Parent Teacher Student Association, Dec. 12, 8 p.m., in the auditorium. The program will consist of traditional holiday songs. Tropical Elementary School The Tropical Elementary School PTA meeting will also be presented by students this year. The meeting will be Dec. 13, 8 p.m., in the cafetorium. Students in the second grade will sing songs of the holiday season. At the short business meeting that night a report of the school's carnival will be given. The membership will also be asked to vote to give the physical education department more athletic equipment. Mrs. Percy Nunnery, area coordinator, will be the guest member at the meeting. The board members and past presidents of Coral Terrace Elementary School will enjoy a Christmas party, Dec. 15, noon, at the Biscayne Terrace Hotel in Miami. Members will exchange Christmas gifts.
Low Net Is The Game For Women Golfers
Members of the Women's Golf Association, Country Club of Coral Gables, met in low net tournament played in classes Friday over the nine hole course, and the total story looks as if Class B pushed Class A just a little. There were 42 members out for the rounds. In Class A, Mrs. J. B. MacMurray won first with a 371⁄2; Mrs. T. L. Snyder was second with a 381⁄2 and Mrs. G. E. Smith was third with 391⁄2. In Class B, Mrs. Leland Lee was first with a 37; Mrs. Clifford Snyder and Mrs. William Hartnett tied with a 39 for second place. Mrs. Estell Van Arman with a 381⁄2 won first in Class C, and three players tied for second place with 411⁄2. They were Mrs. Phil Cannell, Mrs. Robert Grant and Mrs. E. W. Lawson. Mrs. Charles Cavanaugh placed with 42. The members will assist in the upcoming Professional Golf Tournament, selling tickets and other jobs.
Birthday, Yule Party Are Combined
MRS. HOOVER Coco Plum Woman's Club will have a double celebration when it presents its traditional Chistmas Charities Ball this Saturday night. The date also happens to be the birthday of Mrs. George C. Hoover, serving her second term as president of this club, organized in 1912 with a Coral Gables address. Natural Florida foliage sprayed in tones of red and green will deck the halls and ballroom of the club. Mrs. Thomas C. Godwin is caring for a Florida holly tree with an eye towards its branches adding to the holiday decor of this gala affair at 9:30 p.m. Also on the program will be the singing of Christmas carols with guests joining in at 11:30 p.m. led by Mrs. Leo Casani. The "Clubmen" will furnish music for dancing.
Town Club Sets A Date For Luncheon
The Town Club of South Miami, whose membership is made up of business and professional women of South Miami, will meet Tuesday for luncheon in the private dining room of the University Bowling Building on Sunset Dr. Mrs. Marion J. Costner, president, reported that the recent rummage sale the club held was a success. Rummage left over will be donated to the Women's Auxiliary of the South Miami Hospital. The club also donates to immediate emergency relief in its community. They also assist a young blind man in his educational career at Leland Stanford University, Calif.

Busy Month Ahead For ORT
A busy December is in store for members of the Coral Gables Chapter of Women's American ORT. The regular business meeting will be held on Wednesday, December 14, at 1:00 p.m., at Zamora Temple, 442 Zamora Ave. Guest speaker will be Mrs. Bernard Stevens, who will talk on "You, the Dynamic Force in Your Community." Refreshments and a social hour will follow. On Dec. 21, the Chapter will honor all past presidents at 1:00 p.m. at the home of Mrs. Lewis Gibbs, 445 Caligula Ave. A fashion show will follow.

Newhousers Are Hosts At Dinner
Dr. and Mrs. Lloyd R. Newhouser, 525 Gondoliere Ave., were hosts at a dinner Saturday honoring members of the Board of Directors of the Florida Association of Blood Banks of which Dr. Newhouser is president. The dinner was held at the DuPont Hotel, which will be the setting for the Association's annual convention to be held May 5 and 6.
