IT WAS DOWN TO THE SEA IN SLIPS recently when J. P. Robinson, police records clerk, and Les Liles, equipment yard employe, launched Coral Gables new police boat at the Sunrise Harbour boat ramp. Robinson will pilot the boat on weekend patrols of Gables canals and waterways. The new craft replaces the old "African Queen."
Housewives Are Invited To Special Spanish Course
Hundreds of Miamians, including housewives, are learning to lick the language problem in their daily dealings with Dade County's huge Latin American population. They're doing it with "specialized Spanish" — courses that bypass the complexities of grammar and concentrate on conversation, tailored to the needs of their own occupation. Major Role A major role in solving the problem for Coral Gables and South Dade residents is being played by Southwest Miami High Adult Education Center, 8855 SW 50 Ter., which provides qualified instructors for all Spanish students, including a brand new course especially for housewives conducted by teacher Ray R. Muniz. "Our Spanish courses were developed to meet the needs of people whose interest in the language is not purely academic but practical," says Floyd R. Osburn, principal of the Southwest Miami High Adult Education Center. "All instructors in our Center are of Latin American origin," he adds. Field of Interest While giving students a good, basic understanding of the language, instructors concentrate on vocabularies and phrases most commonly used in their students' particular field of interest. The new class for housewives meets each Friday from 7 to 10. Instruction is free with only a $2 registration fee. Civic leaders hail the specialized Spanish program as a positive aid to the development of South Florida's growing business and cultural relations with Latin America.

New Gables Fire Truck Is Damaged
One of Coral Gables' two new fire trucks was damaged Friday morning when it failed to negotiate a corner on the way to a leaking gas alarm. Fire Chief Paul Matheson estimated the damage at approximately $200. This was the same truck which was damaged earlier when it scrapped the side of the old fire station building on Salzedo. According to Gables Officers Robert DeKorte and Bryan Thomas, Fireman Edwin P. Springer, 37, of 3030 SW 84th Ave., was south bound on LeJeune Rd. when he attempted to make a left turn at Ingraham Ter. A cluster of large concrete buttons hampered Springer in making his turn, however, and he went wide and struck a tree.
On University Drive Home Burglarized Twice, He Offers $500 Reward
An irate Coral Gables resident, his home burglarized twice in recent months, has offered a $500 reward for information leading to the apprehension and conviction of the culprit. Richard C. Fullerton, of 4007 University Dr., made the offer Tuesday following the break at his home Friday. "I am not critical of the police," Fullerton pointed out. The victim, whose home was ransacked by the thieves, said that the situation is one in which all citizens should take responsibility. Cased Home The burglars, whom Fullerton suspects of casing his home carefully before the break, got in through a rear door. They ransacked closets, desks and bureaus and used a torch to burn through a safe hidden in a closet. Jewels and other personal items were stolen, but Fullerton declined to put any value on the losses. The break occurred while the Fullertons were out between 10:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., according to police. Can of Water When they returned, they found a waste can full of water, apparently used by the thieves in cutting through the safe. Also found at the scene were a pair of white nylon gloves not belonging to the Fullertons and a crow and pry bar. "We're tired of getting robbed," said Fullerton in explaining that the reward was a general one applicable to anyone.
