by helen reynolds society editor Gail Thompson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred W. Thompson, 1508 Alegriano Ave., and freshman at Wesleyan College, Macon, Ga., and her class were signally honored with an award, "the Stunt Cup." Parents weekend, March 16, 17, 18 at Wesleyan, is observed with class competition on the subject of activities. Gail was elected by her class as one of five persons to write, direct and produce the freshman stunt . . . Spring recess for the students will be March 29 through April 3. Gail and her roommate, Carolyn MacKinney of West Caldwell, N. J., who has never been to Florida, will arrive for their vatations. After the rain and freezing weather topped by floods (Georgia really had it), the girls hope to soak up sunshine and take back a real tan to rainy, cold Georgia. * * * * FAIRBANKS, ALASKA, AND SCHOOL FOR THE SHAW'S Following a rash of students from high school and the University transferring to modern Fairbanks, Alaska, three Coral Gables students, Bill, Pete and Susie, sons and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William L. Shaw, of 2401 Alhambra Cir., are now enjoying the weather in our most northern state, Alaska. It came rather as a surprise to the Shaw's, but Bill, a junior at the University of Miami, wanted to enter the University of Alaska and received his transfer promptly. Pete and Susie, juniors at Coral Gables Senior High, received theirs also. Mrs. Shaw, whose given name is Content, called Connie, left in early February with the three children in order to explore that part of our country during the festive season which begins Feb. 1. Mr. Shaw plans to join his family in June, and they will take the boat trip down the Yukon (the inside passage) to Vancouver then on to Honolulu, returning to Coral Gables via California. Mr. Shaw says Connie writes that Fairbanks is very modern. The family resides in an 8-story apartment building, quite modern and aluminum clad. The children wear parka-type clothes to school, then change to school clothes in their private lockers. * * * * DARU SENA ENTERTAINS 45 FRIENDS Daru Sena, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. D. E. Sena, 6201 Riviera Dr., observed her 12th birthday Sunday with a skating party at the Deauville. Mrs. Sena says it was one of those parties that just grew and grew, so that from a couple of automobile loads, Dr. Sena decided to charter a Coral Gables bus which they did. The Deauville has its own ice rink and the children enjoyed skating following the afternoon performance. After the thrills and spills, the group returned to the Sena home for hamburgers, cake and ice cream and a bop party. Mrs. Sena says 95 percent of the children had never seen snow or ice. * * * * TO HONOR OUR DEBUTANTES Twenty-five young women who will make their bow to Society at the third annual presentation ball April 7 will be honored at a tea Saturday, March 25, when Mrs. Paul H. Hinds of Coral Gables entertains for debutantes Miss Carol Jean Donavan and Miss Barbara Elizabeth Evans. The party will take place from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Granada Room of the Country Club of Coral Gables. * * * * An Easter Parade of Fashions will dot the calendar Wednesday, the 22nd, for members of the Riviera Country Club. Guests are limited to 7 for each member.
