A SPECIAL WEEK is now unfolding in South Florida—and especially Coconut Grove—in American Legion Auxiliary activities. Mrs. Gaynell Anderson, of Tampa, (seated, far left) is visiting the Auxiliaries in South Florida in her capacity as state president. Her host has been members of the Auxiliary of the Lindley de Garmo Unit 70 of Coconut Grove. With her, around the Auxiliary lamp, are some of the prominent Grove members. From right to left, are Mrs. George Sprague, 3151Bird Ave., 10th district president, which includes all Auxiliaries south of Hollywood; Mrs. Milton Cayaves, 812 Granada Grove Ct., president of the Coral Gables Unit; and Mrs. L. M. Duncan, 2997 SW 19th Ter., state president of the child welfare department.
Light That Wasn't There Is Driver's Crash Alibi
A Coral Gables man claimed he had the green light following a collision at the intersection of Ponce de Leon Blvd. and Riviera Dr. shortly before noon Friday. Only trouble was — there is no traffic light at the intersection. Joseph P. Levy, 64, of 5724 Riviera Dr., who lives just a short distance from the scene of the accident, was charged with failing to stop for a stop sign. Car Overturned Levy's rented Cadillac struck and overturned a car occupied by twins, William V. Ott and Robert Ott, both 20, of 401 Glenridge. The twins flipped over in their convertible, but were not seriously injured. Both were treated at Doctors' Hospital. Levy was also slightly injured. According to Gables Officer Bryan Thomas, Levy was southeast bound on Riviera Dr. and slammed into the side of the northeast bound Ott car. Saved From Injury The Ott twins were saved from possible serious injury by the fact that the convertible windshield did not collapse, Thomas said. Thomas, taken aback by Levy's statement that he had the green light, theorized that he was probably confused by the traffic signal on South Dixie Hwy. across the street from the railroad tracks which parallels Ponce de Leon Blvd. Levy's rented car sustained an estimated $500 damage; the convertible approximately $800.
Boy, 13, Hit By Auto At LeJeune, Mile
A 13-year-old boy, struck by a car at the intersection of LeJeune Rd. and Miracle Mile Friday evening, was treated at Doctors' Hospital for an injury of the left arm and released. The victim, Harold Strunin, of 2895 SW 23 Ter., was crossing Biltmore Way south while walking with his bicycle and was hit as he attempted to get on the bike, according to Officer William Bard. Driver of the car was identified as Roslyn W. Saltz, 33, of 6300 SW 33rd St. She was westbound on Biltmore Way shortly before 5:30 p.m. when the accident occurred.

The club will appreciate contributions of any gear that is cluttering up your garage or bilge. The contributions are deductible at full value from your income tax. On items of value such as sextants or dinghys, you can set the minimum price that you will accept. The club will profit from any amount bi' over the minimum. Last year 320 items of marine gear were put up for bids. They included such things as anchors, paint, radios, dinghys, sails, sextants, tools and charts. Items should be brought to the clubroom in the basement of the City Hall by Saturday at 7:30 p.m., so auctioneers can tag them with your name and the minimum bid.
