WARNING NOTICE TO VOTERS OF CORAL GABLES
Candidates for the Coral Gables City Commission are now ASKING YOU for your vote on April 11, 1961. SAFEGUARD your vote and the Welfare of your City by demanding that each candidate answer the following questions: *Do you own or have you owned a financial interest in the Douglas Road Entrance "Deal" and if so, whether you profited by the GIVE AWAY of City owned streets to a private group? *Were you hand picked by a small group of individuals, the leaders of whom profited by the GIVE AWAY of City owned Streets in the Douglas Road Entrance "Deal", and whom at this time are the same leading proponents for the erection of a high rise multiple dwelling apartment building on Biltmore Way? (If the candidate is not forthright in truthfully and completely answering the above questions, it is believed that the records of the TIMES-GUIDE and City Hall, or the answers of certain candidates, will throw some light on the subject.) *Will you vote for a CONFLICT OF INTEREST provision in the City Charter which will prohibit City Commissioners and other public officials from profiting directly or indirectly, from any official acts involving the City of Coral Gables? BEWARE OF THE CANDIDATE WHO FAILS TO GIVE HIS ENTHUSIASTIC SUPPORT IN PLEDGING TO VOTE FOR A STRONG CONFLICT OF INTEREST PROVISION IN THE CITY CHARTER! *Will you pledge to conduct yourself in such a manner as to abstain from using the granting of official favors such as zoning variances and the like for the purpose of furthering your own financial interests and/or the financial interests of your friends and political supporters? *In view of the past performance of Metropolitan Government, do you feel that you would, if elected, vote in favor of further "give-aways" of Coral Gables personnel and services to Metro? *Are you in favor of abolishing Metro and returning our government and its services back to the Citizens of Coral Gables? WHEREVER YOU SEE OR HEAR A CANDIDATE, I urge each voter to get an answer to each of the above important questions. You cannot vote intelligently until you do so. I believe that the City of Coral Gables is at the crossroads and the election of April 11, 1961, may be the most important election in our history. We can go forward and progress by thoroughly informing ourselves as to the candidates, going to the polls and voting for honest, able, well-informed, courageous and capable men of high integrity who desire only to contribute to the best interests of the City of Coral Gables. On the other hand, by failing to assert ourselves, we can go down the hill by allowing a few perennial politicians to put their slate of puppets in office and thereby remain on the receiving end of contributions and contracts from the City, in addition to running the City by remote control. I have been a permanent resident and a home owner in Coral Gables since my retirement from the Army fourteen years ago. During this entire time I have been active in working for cleaner government and I believe my record of six year's service as President of the Crime Commission of Greater Miami is fairly well known in this area. I am sponsoring no candidate or slate of candidates. I desire no favors from the City of Coral Gables or any of its officials, past, present or future. My sole desire in authoring this message and placing it before the voters is in the hopes of making a contribution to what I sincerely believe shall be in the best interests of the future development of the City of Coral Gables.
