Chamber Looking For Work To Do
Members of the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce will be surveyed to determine plans for a program of worok for the local Chamber. Directors, meeting March 23, adopted suggestions drawn up by the Program of Work Committee, headed by chairman Ivan R. Cunningham. Other members are Robert Searle, Dr. Richard Strain and Dan Ferber. The survey is expected to be mailed in a few days to all chamber members. Forty suggested activities will be voted on by individual members. These will be rated on the basis of "highest priority," "important," "if budget permits," and "not a chamber function." Among the proposals to be voted on are creation of a new public park in the McBride lot next to the Woolworth building; a new library; attraction of more white collar industry, a first class hotel and sponsorship of a "career day" for high school students. Other subjects to be surveyed include continued study of state and national issues affecting business and work for sound legislation; continue "Action Course in Practical Politics"; publish a byers guide and seek an end to the inventory tax.
Kerdyk, Semple To Oppose Tax
Commissioner Frank Kerdyk and city attorney Ted Semple will be in Tallahassee next week to lobby to have the personal property tax dropped. Kerdyk recently made a similar proposal to the City Commission for dropping the tax in the City, but no action had been taken on that proposal yet.
Meters
(Continued from Page 1) to accept a ticket, though he had parked by a meter and neglected to put money in it. Campbell said he was courteous and tried to explain that he had to write the ticket because the meter flag was up. The ticket-writers said a motorist's most common excuse in trying to evade getting a ticket is that he went for change to put in the meter. But the ticket writers said they don't have any choice. They must write the ticket because the violation flag is up. "I try to tell them that it isn't that I don't believe them," said Shirley, "but that there's nothing I can do about it."
