C. Gables FOP gives $600 to dead trio's memorial fund
The Coral Gables Fraternal Order of Police has donated $600 to a memorial fund honoring the three Dade County police officers, Thomas Hodges, Clark Curlette and Frank Dazevedo, killed in the line of duty last month. FOP president Richard McEnany sent a letter with the donation stating, "the monetary award is only a small token of our true appreciation in memory of these fine young fellow officers... It takes a senseless tragedy such as this to bring to people's attention the critical part that police play in everyone's life." A benefit for the three officers is also planned. It will be sponsored by Big Daddy Lounges. The $2 donation at the door and the $1.25 per drink donation will go to the memorial fund. The Gables benefit is slated for Monday evening, June 7, at the Happy Hour Lounge, Coral Way and Douglas Road.
Fashion show
Dress designer Ramona Rull will display her fashions, made with exotic fabrics from around the world, at the Jordan Marsh Dadeland store from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, June 3. Informal modeling will be featured from noon to 3 p.m. and complimentary wine and cheese will be served from 2 and 3 p.m.
Chamber changes
Myrtice Mordaunt, who coordinated the office of the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce for many years, has resigned to pursue other interests. The staff reorganization at the chamber includes Marty Gunby as staff coordinator and Connie Crowther, former legislative aide to State Rep. Nancy Harrington, of Coral Gables, as programmer. Mrs. Crowther is also a former Times/Guide reporter.
