Youths want more bike paths
From Page 1 riding their bikes and were hot, sweaty and tired. They were also fed up. "Put it in the newspaper so the city hall will know," Robert said. "There are no sidewalks we can ride on," Tod added. "It seems like we could get hit or something. The paths are so narrow I can hardly fit my tires in them. Couldn't they put in something we could ride on?" Koronkiewicz pointed out that installing bike paths is a complicated matter, but agreed that it would eventually have to be done. "Bicycles are becoming a much more dominant factor in traffic," he said "but before we can do anything else we have to stress to everyone that they must obey the rules of the road. "They should ride on the right and stop for signs and signals, just like a car," Koronkiewicz stated. "The kids are aware of the rules, but drivers, people who are good drivers in cars, hop on a bike and forget. They fail to follow the same signs." Drivers coming up behind bike riders shouldn't honk, the officer warned, because "it could make the rider afraid. He could look back and lose his balance. A driver behind a bike should remember that kids often make erratic movements. They should slow down and be careful."
