gables news | Road's now history in the House
The Florida House of Representatives, on Monday, May 31, named Coral Way, from LeJeune Road to Red Road, a historic highway. The measure, which still needs the Senate's and governor's approval to become law, would mean that Coral Way cannot be widened in the future, that historic markers will be placed along the road and that efforts will be made to preserve its old trees and historic homes. Coral Gables Rep. Tom Gallagher, who shepherded the bill through the House, is optimistic that the Senate will pass either his measure or a similar one sponsored by Sen. Vernon Holloway before the session ends this week.
