by helen reynolds society editor A fling in New York seeing the shows was fun for Sandra Railsbach, who will enter Coral Gables High School, come September. Sandra's mother, Mrs. Ollie Railsbach, 825 Milan Ave., said they saw four of the top Broadway shows and Sandra's choice of the four was the "Sound of Music." Mrs. Railsbach completed some business while in the big city. The trip was in lieu of camp, which Sandra has attended for several summers. But when you've just graduated from Junior High School (Ponce de Leon) you've out-grown camp life. Wanda Peterson didn't let any grass grow under her feet this summer. A graduate of Coral Gables High School, she has been working as a nurse's aide at the Coral Gables Veteran's Hospital, Wanda, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Enis "Pete" Peterson, of 3616 Ponce de Leon Blvd., was one of the Coral Gables Country Club debutantes this spring. She plans to enter Florida Southern College, Lakeland in September. Capt. and Mrs. E. B. Wharton, 533 Majorca Ave., became great-grandparents on June 13. Their granddaughter, the former Frances Wharton, now Mrs. William R. Lackley Jr. of Eau Gallie, and her husband are the parents of their first, a daughter, Mary Ann, who weighed in at 8 lbs., 51⁄2 oz. Mary Ann is also the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. William R. Lackley, of 1202 Galiano Ave. Miss Marilyn Kaufman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Kaufman, 1215 San Ignacio Ave., plans to enter Florida Presbyterian College in September. This college opened for its first freshman class, Sept. 1960. Marilyn, who graduated in June from Coral Gables High School is one of 150 students accepted for the college's freshman class.
Celia Shouse Weds Willis Bishop III
MRS. WILLIS E. BISHOP III Celia Tinsley Shouse, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Felix Shouse, 2718 Alhambra Circle, was married Sunday to Willis Everett Bishop III in the Memorial Chapel at Lake Junaluska, N.C., where the Shouse family maintains a summer home. The bride wore a full-length gown of peau de soie with a sweetheart neckline and cap sleeves. The gown had two flowing panels at the back which were braided at the waist and fell to the length of her chapel train. The gown was apliqued with Alencon lace and seed pearls. Her veil of silk illusion fell from a matching cap of Alencon lace. She carried a cascade bouquet of white roses and orchids. Mrs. Shouse wore an afternoon dress of champagne-colored silk with matching accessories and a corsage of brown-tone orchids. Mrs. Bishop wore turquoise chiffon sheath with matching hat and wore pale cream colored orchids. Miss Margaret Fowler, of Lake Junaluska, was maid of honor and the groom's father, Willis Everett Bishop Jr., 7241 SW 78th Ct., was best man. Ushers were Michael Jones, of Charlotte, N.C., and Jack Siler, Waynesville, N.C. A reception followed the candlelight afternoon ceremony at the Terrace Inn, on the lake, overlooking the mountains. The bride attended Miss Harris Florida School for Girls, the Everglades School for Girls, and Randolph Macon Women's College, Lynchburg, Va. She made her debut at the Surf Club and at the Coral Gables Debutante Cotillion, 1960. The groom attended Coral Gables High and the University of Miami. Both the bride and groom will continue their studies at the University of Miami this fall. The bridal couple left immediately following the ceremony for a honeymoon tour of Florida and the Carolinas and will fly to Nassau later.

What I tell MY DAUGHTERS
By a Gables Mother DEAR JOAN, Yesterday you angrily announced that you were "never going to speak to Debbie again!" I wonder if you realize that when friendships fail, it is usually because of some character weakness of our own. Examine your conscience. What was the real cause of your misunderstanding? Were you guilty of envy, resentment, arrogance, or impatience? Someone once said, "If you want to gather honey, don't kick over the beehive." And I say - don't throw away your friendships for some trivial cause. They can be your most valued possession, and should be treated as such. One of the saddest thing in the world is that so many people are bored, disgruntled and full of whines and complaints. They are bitter and sour and think that everyone is against them. Why? Because they have no friends. To make friends, we must be friendly. We have to "sell" our wares to those we meet and, believe me, it can be a difficult job unless you learn self-denial and prudence and tact. If you want to make yourself desirable to your fellow creatures, you have to show your heart to them. Get the best that they have to give and overlook the balance. Shut your eyes to their faults and see only their good points. Pray that they in turn will be blind to your defects. To keep friends, you must nourish them, as a budding flower. As you sew you reap, and when you have sowed the little seeds of kindness and sympathy for others, you will reap harvests of friends to rejoice with you in your triumphs and weep with you in your sorrows. Love, MOTHER
