Big Firecracker's Going Off Tonight

(Adv.) Big Firecracker's Going Off Tonight One of the biggest firecrackers ever constructed in South Florida will be fired to kick off the Fourth of July weekend Thursday evening (June 29th) at Central Shopping Plaza, 37th Ave. and 7th Street NW. Firing time for the 25-foot cracker will be 9:15 p.m. The fire-red cracker is on display at the shopping center for this entire week and sits in the middle of a large roped off area in the center's parking area. For those who miss the Thursday night firing, the cracker will again be discharged Friday and Saturday evening at 9:15 p.m. in the same area. Hundreds of residents from both South and North Dade are expected to gather at the center each evening to witness the firing. A 15-foot wick extends from the top of the firecracker and hangs down the side of the mammoth display.
