Mr. and Mrs. John H. Lipscomb, 937 E. Sunset Dr., are leaving by plane today (Thursday) to go to Salt Lake City, Utah. They will visit Mrs. Lipscomb's parents who are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. They plan to be away about 10 days. ★ ★ ★ William J. Reilly, 500 Alhambra Cir., president of the South Florida Personal and Guidance Association, is proud of his thank-you telegram from the White House, Washington. It reads: "I am deeply grateful for your kind birthday greetings. Thank you for remembering me." John F. Kennedy. ★ ★ ★ Barbara Lee Babbitt, daughter of the W. T. Babbitt's of 1109 Andalusia Ave., had one last fling at the University of Georgia, before the end of college. She visited her Kappa Delta Sorority sister, Miss Tanya Frantz in Atlanta. Both girls attended the marriage of Barbara's room-mate (at college, Miss Sandra Stone). Barbara lost no time in landing a job on her return. She is a secretary in a Coral Gables Security Agency. ★ ★ ★ They'll be singing the "Sweetheart of Sigma Chi" June 27-30, when the Sigma Chi fraternity holds its 53rd grand chapter, convention at the Deauville Hotel, Miami Beach. Among alumni greats will be Dr. Jay F. W. Pearson, president of the University of Miami and Dr. Marvin L. Ebelmesser, 1212 Alberca Ave., who is general chairman of the biennial convention. During the festivities, Dr. Pearson is due to receive the Significant Sig Award, one, among 16 other distinguished members of the fraternity, for outstanding achievement in the field of endeavor. ★ ★ ★ Jack Younger, member of the board of the Century Club of Coral Gables and Mrs. Younger are kicking up their heels in Banff-Alberta, Canada. Or, rather Col. Younger is, since he is serving in the capacity of racing secretary official at all races held in the Provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan which includes the cities of Calgary, and Edmonton. The Youngers find gazing out their windows at the snow covered Rockies all around them, unusual and a bit stimulating. ★ ★ ★ Sandra Freefiled, sixth grader at Merrick Demonstration School, Coral Gables entertained her fellow graduates at a "celebration" party June 11 at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Freefield, 1911 Coral Gate Dr. Mrs. Earl Wietz, the teacher, and her husband, and 35 children attended the affair. The Venture Club of Coral Gables a service club of young business and professional women, sponsored by the Coral Gables' Soroptimist Club elected Barbara Mullaney their president, in June banquet ceremonies at the La Casita Restaurant. Easter Martin (Russell) first president (1947) of the Gables Soroptimists talked of "Venturism." ★ ★ ★ Orchids to Mrs. Dave Bosworth Jr. who won the annual president Cup golf tournament at the Coral Gables Country Club' Women Golf Association play. She had a net 73 to win. Mrs. Robert Grant with a net 74 came in second. Mrs. Albert Bachmann, and Mrs. Robert Marshall tied for third with a 75. Mrs. Eugene Kasper was 4th with a net 76. Mrs. Bosworth will have her name engraved on the Carroll's Jeweler trophy. ★ ★ ★ Three Coral Gables residents were among the 3,000 who received degrees at Harvard University June 15. Graduating cum laude with an A.B. was Nester D. Portocarrero, 3100 Alhambra Cir. Jonathan N. Baskin, 1819 Ferdinand St., also received an A.B. and Paul R. Toomey, 34, Madeira Ave., an LLB. ★ ★ ★ Good news from our new medical graduates at Emory University. Dr. Gordon N. Gerson, 3611 Ponce de Leon Blvd. will interne at Georgetown University Hospital Washington; Dr. Warren W. Quillian II, 6925 Veronese Ave., will interne at Vanderbilt University Hospital, Nashville, Tenn. ★ ★ ★ Bill Kennedy, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Kennedy of 1303 Madrid St., is spending two months in Blowing Rock, N.C. as the houseguest of Mr. and Mrs. Grover Robbins. While there, Bill who is known to many Gabelites for his golf game, will teach at the Blowing Rock course. His older brother, David, is home for the summer from Nashota House, the Episcopal Seminary at Nashota, Wis., and is keeping busy assisting on the staff at St. Philip's Church. ★ ★ ★ Mrs. John G. Shirley, wife of the Rev. Shirley of St. Philip's Episcopal Church, is under observation for an infected gland at Doctors' Hospital. Mrs. Shirley was admitted to the hospital Sunday. She is improving and hopes to be home in about a week. ★ ★ ★ Mrs. Patricia Robbins, a member of the West Miami Woman's Club, is conducting a series of civilian defense lectures for 21 of the Senior Citizens at City Hall on Mondays. ★ ★ ★ The Hurricane Harbor Lounge was the setting for the Southwest Garden Club's installation of officers on June 15. Mrs. J. D. Chestnut, Secretary of the African Violet Club and past president of the Esland Club was the installing officer. New officers are Mrs. R. W. Kenworth, president; Mrs. R. A. Bachelard, first vice president; Mrs. J. D. Erwin, second vice president; Mrs. Jack Sherman, third vice president; Mrs. Aurie Bodziony, treasurer; Mrs. Nicky Larkins, secretary; and Mrs. Harry Reifenberg, corresponding secretary.

57 Years... And Beans
In recognition of their 57th wedding anniversary June 22, Mr. and Mrs. Clair Blanchard, 213 Sarto Ave., received a gift package of the "57 Varieties" from H. J. Heinz Co. One small problem: "We don't like beans!" wailed Mrs. Blanchard. "But it certainly was very nice of them." Mr. and Mrs. Blanchard moved to Coral Gables from Buffalo, N.Y., in 1951. They have two children, Domm C. Blanchard, a Miami resident, and Mrs. Virginia Kuntz, of Coral Gables. They also have four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Granada Presbyterian to Have Allen as Assistant
Rev. Claude I. Allen Jr. will be ordained assistant minister at Granada Presbyterian Church Sunday. The Rev. Allen comes to Granada Presbyterian from Columbia Theological Seminary, Decatur, Ga., where he was graduated earlier this month. He is a native Floridian and a graduate of the University of Florida, where he served as band drum major for four years. At Florida he was a member of Blue Key honor fraternity and Sigma Chi fraternity. In the past year, Rev. Allen has served as minister of the Tuskegee, Ala., Presbyterian Church. Prior to that he served in the educational program of North Avenue Presbyterian Church, Atlanta. He comes to the Presbytery of the Everglades from Sewanee Presbytery, having been a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Gainesville. At Granada Presbyterian Church, he will work with young people in the educational program of the church and Sunday school. He will also assist in preaching and pastoral activities.
