by helen reynolds society editor Nothing daunts Rita (Mrs. James R.) Davant, 1224 Castile Ave. She can preside over a woman's club meeting, (she's president Coco Plum Woman's Club) or cook a dinner for 30, as she did Saturday Night. Occasion was a party honoring Mrs. Arthur Miller, a vice president of Riverside Bank, who was retiring after 18 years. Guests were officers of the bank, and their wives. We asked Rita if she would have a catered dinner? She said, "Heavens no! I do the cooking," and added she had several special dishes she prepared. - Mrs. Miller, the honor guest, and her husband will move to Tavares, where they own property. Mrs. Miller incidently was a longtime former resident on Anderson Road in Coral Gables. ★ ★ ★ Martha Jarvis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. D. Jarvis, 1257 San Miguel Ave., is now a teacher in the 50th state of the union, and having the time of her life, she writes. Martha arrived at the witching hour of midnight, June 21st and was scheduled to begin her summer session that morning. She was met at the airport in Honolulu, which is situated on the island of Oahu, one of a strong of seven islands of which Hawaii is the largest, by her longtime friends, and former Gableites, Tom and Trudye Lutton, who have been Honolulvans for almost two years. Martha became acquainted with the Luttons' first born, six months' old Chris, for she stayed with the Luttons until she could get settled. Martha, who taught at Riviera Junior High School, will teach English at Punahou School in Honolulu. She plans to do some island hopping, and since Oahu is in the middle of the chain, she will be neighborly. She also will visit Tokyo and Hong Kong during her Christmas vacation. This week she is welcoming Carolyn Jones, a teacher at Coral Gables High School, and friend. In fact Carolyn and Martha entered the first grade to- gether, Carolyn is also going on to Tokyo and Hong Kong. ★ ★ ★ Mrs. Ferinand G.
