A couple of young tennis players, Robert Berry, varsity player on the Florida State University team, and Don Friis, Gables High School senior and netman, will conduct a tennis clinic at the Epiphany School, 8235 Red Rd., between July 10 and Aug. 25. Classes will be held Monday, Wednesday and Friday, twice daily from 9-11 a.m. and 3-5 p.m. A fee of $4.50 per week will be charged, but equipment will be provided. 'Tobacco Road' Given Favorable Appraisal

(A review) Studio M Playhouse celebrated its seventh opening of the year last week with the presentation of Erskine Caldwell's "Tobacco Road," under the direction of Ruth Foreman. The play, which is a comedy depicting the utter hopelessness of life and existence on a Georgia sharecropper's farm in the early depression years, is full of good earthy, primitive American humor. It gives a good insight into the psychology and morals of the southern "white trash" population. Special recognition should go to Doris Bernhardt who took over the roll of Sister Bessie three days before opening. It is a very important part which directs much satire at the revivalist - type of religion as expressed by Sister Bessie, a middle-aged woman preacher who exhibits her uncontrolled sexual desires and yet rationalizes them through her religion. In one instance she manages this by claiming divine guidance as an excuse for marring the adolescent son of the sharecroppers. All of the cast showed much talent and understanding of their parts which helped immeasurably the realism necessary for this type of naturalistic drama. Cy Haworth and Beryl Taylor are especially to be commended for their portrayals of the mother and father, Jeter and Ada Lester. — Chuck Sunergren.

Groundskeeper Critical After Accident in Pool

A 62-year-old Coral Gables chauffeur and groundskeeper is still in "fair" condition at Doctors' Hospital after being rescued from a swimming pool by a Gables fireman. Edwin C. Berryman, of 750 Santander Ave., was pulled unconscious out of eight feet of water by Fireman Robert R. Dymond Friday afternoon at the home of H. D. Schultz, 3121 Anderson Rd., after he either suffered a seizure or injury while swimming in his neighbor's pool. Dymond dived in after Sgt. C. O. Willingham broke down a patio door leading to the pool. Fireman Jerome S. Kirk gave Berryman emergency aid before he was taken to Doctors'. Fire and police responded to a call from Berryman's employer, Mrs. Viola Payette, 750 Santander, who summoned help after hearing Berryman's call for help.
