by helen reynolds society editor Miss Norway and Miss Finland, two beauties in the Miss Universe contest were given a treat by their Coral Gables escorts, Ted Tkach and Larry Freeman. They visited the University of Miami campus and had a backyard barbecue given for them. Ted is the son of Mrs. John Tkach, 524 Alcazar Ave. Larry's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Monte Freeman, 1235 Algardi Ave. He is vice-consul for El Salvadore and a member of the Pageant Committee. Both boys attend Emory University. Larry's parents were hosts for the barbecue. Then Larry and Ted took the girls sightseeing and to see "Fanny." Mrs. Tkach said the girls were wonderful and that they fell in love with the Gables, said it was like fairyland. * * * Mrs. Louise Cornwell, a former president of the Pilot Club of Coral Gables, recuperating from 13 months of serious illness, believes she will now get well. She talked to this reporter by phone on Friday, and her voice sounded very good. A charter member, she served the Pilot Club as president in 1959-60 and initiated the club's first annual welfare luncheon at the Fontainebleau Hotel. She was a secretary in the office of Padgett, Teasley and Niles at 2505 Ponce de Leon Blvd. MRS. CORNWELL

Genevieve Lamb Weds Lt. George W. Mabey

Mr. and Mrs. William Charles Lamb of 533 Coral Way announce the marriage of their daughter, Genevieve, to George W. Mabey, Lt. (JG), U.S. Navy, of Kenmore, N.Y. The wedding took place at 7 p.m. Saturday at Plymouth Congregational Church and a reception and dinner followed at the Country Club of Coral Gables. The bride was attended by her sister, Marguerite, as maid of honor. Howard Hohl, uncle of the groom, was best man. The couple will honeymoon in Nassau and spend the next year in Europe. Among the guests for the wedding were the parents of the groom, Mr. and Mrs. James Rudhard; the bride's grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John E. Webster; the bride's aunt, Mrs. Emil Vierow of Youngstown, O.; Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Nance, of Houston, Tex., and their daughter, Betty Nance and Jane Winfree of Baton Rouge, La.; Col. and Mrs. Robert A. Winn of Vero Beach; and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Frewley, Jr. of Odessa, Tex. Bella Noche En Venice For Junior Woman's Club

La Bella Noche En Venice (A Beautiful Night in Venice) will be the scene for the Coral Gables Junior Woman's Club's annual summer fund raising party, July 29 at 8 p.m., 1101 E. Ponce de Leon Blvd. Red-checked tablecloths and candlelight will transform the clubhouse into a Venetian cafe. Edmund Cava, Italian opera singer, will provide the evening's entertainment. Women To Help In Food Plan

Coral Gables Woman's Club members have volunteered to distribute food to the needy. After a training meeting, the women will work processing the forms necessary to the distribution program. They will be taught the requirements and the assistance that will be needed from them by the illiterate and the indigent in making out application for federal aid. The women will work from July 31 through August 4 at either the Perrine station or the Dade County Auditorium.

Sewing Classes Will Start

Want to learn to make your own clothes? Two classes in "clothing construction" (sewing) begin Aug. 2, 7-10 p.m., and Aug. 3, 9 a.m. to noon, at the Coral Gables Youth Center. Each class meets once a week for eight weeks. Fee is $2. The classes, which will be taught by Mrs. Grace Whitfield, are sponsored by the adult education division of the Dade County public school system.

Mrs. Tucker Is Off Committee

Mrs. Frances Tucker, recently re-appointed by the City Commission to serve on the Bi-Racial Committee, has resigned. City Manager L. W. Robinson Jr. said Mrs. Tucker gave poor health for her resignation. She had served on the Committee since May 1960. Mrs. Tucker is principal at George Washington Carver Elementary School.
