Just Like People Caesareans to Fish Hooks- Animals Have Their Problems

By RAYMOND LANG Times Reporter One little cat tangles with a fish hook and another jams a sewing needle in its throat. If you think people who go to doctors have it bad, listen to pets' troubles. A dog has a bit of trouble with his gall stones. A chimp, dressed like a little girl, gets a shot of penicillin to fight off penumonia. It's happened. Ask Mrs. Rotta Dobb, a receptionist for a Coral Gables veterinarian. "There was this one cat who had gotten into the garage," said Mrs. Dobbs, "where the fish hooks were. "It got the hook in its mouth and tired to get it out with its paw, but got that caught. It tried with the other paw and caught that one. "Then it tried with both its hind paws and got them caught." The pet's owners brought the bundle of fur to the vet nad he removed the hook. Mrs. Dobbs said another cat had somehow jammed a sewing needle and thread into its throat. The vet pushed it to one side and then pulled it out. Often the vet must perform a Caesarean operation on a pregnant dog. Mrs. Dobbs explained that this owner, who raises pedigreed dogs, will instruct the vet to perform a Caesarean if it seems the dog will have trouble with a natural delivery. Of course, dogs have other problems. Everything from trouble with gall stones and gall bladders to overweight and chicken bones caught in their throats. Though pets may come and go with their humanlike problems, Mrs. Dobbs will always remember the chimp. "I looked out the door," she said, "and here comes a woman with a chimp in a dress, with little socks and shoes, and a little cap with a ribbon tied under the chin. "It was the cutest thing! I had never seen a chimp so dressed up." Mrs. Dobbs said the owner told her the chimp was treated just like a child. She had her own nursery and bed and ate from a dish while sitting in a high chair. "And after the chimp got its penicillin shot, they got into the car and the chimp sat in the front seat by the window. "I said 'Bye, bye.' "And do you know that chimp turned right around to me and waved 'Good-bye'?"

They Want Mr. Taylor For 'Scene'

Robert Taylor — not the movie actor — is a much-sought-after and well-dressed gentleman. Taylor — at least that's the name he gave to dozens of store owners in Coral Gables and South Miami — bought several hundred dollars in clothes for which he paid in elastic checks. Complaints flooded the Coral Gables and South Miami Police stations and Chambers of Commerce as "Taylor" "spent" freely in Miracle Mile and South Miami stores using checks drawn on the Commercial Bank of Miami. Police are checking out various leads — a license number and one check allegedly signed by a Teamsters Union official. Teamsters told police they did not know the person named.

Police Aimed to Win And They Couldn't Miss

Sure as shooting the Coral Gables Police Department won the Florida Peace Officers Association annual pistol match cup last week at Clearwater. The four-man team of Lt. Floyd Neff, Officers L. W. Frederick, Harvey Davis and Assistant Chief D. F. Edwards came away with the shinny new trophy after nosing out law enforcement teams from all over Florida, including municipal, county, State and federal units. Lt. Neff also took the slow fire match in the masters class and Officer Robert Smith, who went along as an alternate, won two plaques in the sharpshooter class. A two-year lay off from competition apparently sharpened the shooting eye of the local dead eye Dans.
