Greyhound Fails to Get City Support on Routes

Southern Greyhound Lines has failed in its bid to get the support of the Coral Gables City Commission to back two new routes to the St. Petersburg area from the city. Commissioners voted 3-2 Tuesday against taking a stand in favor of the routes. Commissioner Joe Murphy backed the request with Commissioner Franklin Evans, but the move was opposed by Mayor Robert L. Searle, and Commissioners George Wilson and C. L. Dressel. Also opposing the proposal was Trailways Bus Systems, which operates on the same routes and which was granted a similar request by a form commission. Final approval or denial of the request will have to come from the Florida Railroad and Public Utilities Commission.
