PEOPLE Places & Things

Lee Hunter, 11-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Bud Hunter, 5904 San Vicente, is in Doctors' Hospital this week for a kidney checkup. When Lee entered the hospital Tuesday night, they weren't too sure where to put him since he was neither a small child nor an adult. They decided on the latter and Lee is now sharing a nice semi-private room, with television, with an adult. Lee'd love to hear from some of his friends this week. He's allowed visitors. Friends of Mrs. George Hurst, 222 Romano Ave., were surprised to hear she has already been in and out of the hospital and is recuperating from a major operation. The Noah Tylers, 1021 Mantanzas Ave., tell us they had a terrific time fishing and doing "just what we wanted to do it" on their recent vacation. They left the morning before the space shot (Gus's) to go to Cocoa to see it, but after it was postponed they decided to move in. They toured the state and just relaxed. Mrs. Tyler shares her husband's love of fishing, and they did quite a bit of it. There is never a dull moment around the Lorin Coppock home on Jeronimo Drive, since daughter, Alice and her husband, the Rev. Charles G. Warden, and their three children arrived for a visit. The Wardens reside in Bradenton, where the Rev. Mr. Warden is curate in Christ Episcopal Church. The Coral Gables Country Club was the scene of the annual Rotary Club of West Miami installation dinner. Among the 1961-62 officers are Alexander Fabri, 2209 Alhambra Cir., secretary. Venture Club, a young women's club sponsored by the Coral Gables Soroptimists, initiated new members at a swim-barbeque meeting held at the home of club sponsor Mrs. Fred Bendinger, 9020 Old Cutler Rd. New members are Sandra Hogue, 6205 SW 113th St.; Linda Jenkins, 3530 SW 13th St.; and Edith Perla, 1403 SW 4th St. Helping with installation was Mrs. Wendell Sumner, a member of the Soroptimists. Mrs. Thomas Geldhauser, 3934 Riviera Dr., had just returned from her annual summer trip home to New Jersey, when she caught first sight of her seven-week-old granddaughter, Stephanie. The baby and parents, Air Force Lt. and Mrs. Theodore W. Stullick arrived Saturday from Marsh Air Force Base in California. They are her houseguests. They will have two weeks here then to London, England, for two years' duty. Mrs. Stullick is the daughter of Mrs. Vincent Farrey of North Miami Beach, and the late Mr. Farrey. Mabel Meadows Staats, 5110 San Amaro Dr., had a full car when she left Saturday for Paris, Illinois. With her was her mother, Mrs. John Meadows, and Mrs. J. Bayly Whitney. Enroute Mrs. Staats planned to visit Mrs. Raeburn C. Horne of Madison (Fla.). While Mrs. Whitney visits relatives in Indianapolis, Mrs. Staats will fly to Denver to attend the Alpha Delta Kappa, international honorary sorority for women, and her mother will visit relatives and old friends in Paris. Mabel will pick up her two passengers after a trip to Washington to visit former Coral Gableites, the Thomas Magans, and they'll all be coming back the fourth week of August. James Sottille III, of 2525 Indian Mound Trail, has been named to the Dean's List at the College of Business Administration at the University of Florida for the spring semester. Frances Wharton, 533 Majorca Ave., entered South Miami Hospital for removal of a cataract from her right eye Monday. While she is there, the H. G. Whartons of Eau Gallie, Fla., are visiting Captain Wharton. Naval Cadet Robert S. Chernin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Chernin, 120 Salamanca Ave., was graduated July 14 from the Naval School of Pre-Flight at the Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Fla. Upon graduation, he received orders to Saufley Field Naval Auxiliary Air Station for his next step on the path to his Navy "Wings of Gold" and designation as a Naval aviator. Mrs. Frieda R. Hoffman, 830 Messina Ave., is participating in the Foreign Language Institute at Hofstra College, Hempstead, New York, this summer. She teaches Spanish and French at Miami Senior High School. While she is studying at the institute, her husband, Morris Hoffman, and their two daughters, Victoria and Tomara, are at home. Realtor Robert McTague, who normally looks forward to his Naval Reserve cruises, was joking this week about the one he will leave on Aug. 15th aboard the USS Beale, a destroyer escort. "Maybe they won't let me come back," McTague commented, in reference to the world military situation. He's a commander in the reserve. Mr. and Mrs. H. N. Pippinger of SW 72nd Ct. left this week for their summer home at Waynesville, N.C., taking with them two nephews, Rickey and Rusty Pippinger, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Pippinger, SW 53rd Ter. On Tuesday, H. N. Pippinger celebrated his 33rd year with Pan American Airways where he is a flight engineer. "We're proud of it," said Mrs. P. with wifely pride. Mr. and Mrs. Larry Larrimore were called to Wilson, N.C., recently by the death of her mother, Mrs. D. T. Herring.

Henry Lynden Weds Massachusetts Girl

Dr. and Mrs. George William Ballantyne of Worchester, Mass., are announcing the marriage of their daughter, Marjorie, to Henry Albert Lynden, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Anthony Lyden of 2028 Alhambra Cir. A small reception followed the ceremony held at the Immaculate Conception Church in Worchester. The Rev. Edward T. Connors officiated at the 3 p.m. ceremony, and the Rev. F. Benjamin Carr Jr., chaplain of the Northfield School for Girls, gave the pastoral blessing at the cutting of the cake. The bride, given in marriage by her father wore an imported dotted swiss organdy and lace gown with square neck line and short sleeves. The fitted bodice was fashioned to a bouffant floor-length skirt. Her Dior bow headpiece of matching lace caught the silk illusion veil and she carried a basket of mixed white flowers and English ivy. Miss Susan Hight of Leicester was the only attendant. She wore an aqua organza dress with matching headband and carried a basket of mixed flowers and English ivy. John Anthony Lyden Jr., of Winter Park, was best man for his brother. Ushers were Edward A. Craig III, Vernon Squires, Thomas H. Dupree and Dr. George W. Ballantyne Jr., brother of the bride. The bride attended Bancroft School, Bradford Junior College and Hollins College, Virginia. She is a member of the Junior League Inc. of Worchester. The groom attended Culver Military Academy, Culver, Ind., and Williams College, Williamstown, Mass., and received his master's degree from M.I.T., Cambridge, Mass., where he is an instructor on the faculty and candidate for a doctor of science degree. He is a member of Beta Theta Pi, social fraternity; Tau Beta Pi, and Phi Beta Kappa. He is a former member of the Iron Eagles, and locally, he is a member of the Bath Club and the Coral Reef Yacht Club. Among the out-of-town guest at the wedding were the groom's sister, and family, the John R. Lotts' and their small children, Mary Lou, and John Jr. Also attending were his brother, the best man, and family including two of their four children, Kathryn, and Jay, of Winter Park.
