3 Public Hearings Monday On Local Zoning Changes
Three public hearings — one on a new subdivision and two requesting a change in zoning — have been scheduled by the Coral Gables Zoning Board Monday. The new proposed subdivision is Fairchild Manors, bordered on the west by Old Cutler Road and on the north and east by Sol Rovin's Hammock Oaks. Owner is Anthony J. Manzo, who is also developing the property. M. B. Garris is Manzo's engineer. The Mondevato Corporation is seeking a change of zoning to permit an addition to Delmonico's Restaurant at 142 SW 37th Ave. The lot, located inside Coral Gables is zoned for single family residential use and would have to be changed to commercial use to permit the addition. The other public hearing on that date is on Dr. Lee Worley's proposal to change a piece of property on the northwest corner of Le Jeune Road and Avenue Rosaro from residential zoning to commercial to permit a medical office building.

Something TO TALK ABOUT
Buildings which are historic landmarks in Coral Gables today began to rise from their cornerstones in the 1920's. The cornerstone was laid for the Coral Gables Congregational Church in 1924. It's regarded as one of the most beautiful mission-type edifices in America. St. Joseph's Academy also opened in 1924. It's now known by another name, St. Theresa School and Church of the Little Flower. Merrick Demonstration School opened its doors, but [TEXT LOST]iginally it was the Coral Gables Military Academy. Exmoor School was opened in 1927, but bankruptcy closed it last year. Merrick hoped to build a University of Miami to link the cultures of the Americas. Merrick pledged $5 million to the UM. When the cornerstone was laid in the summer of 1926, neither financial burdens nor the hurricane in September could dash to pieces establishment of the university. The City of Coral Gables was incorporated April 29, [19]25. Around the infant city stood infant buildings that today are our historic landmarks reminding us of our past.
