Blue's Bridge

For years they've been talking about the Blue Road Bridge. Tuesday the City Commission voted to go out for bids. Just like that. No discussion. The new bridge, to be built between Granada Boulevard and University Drive, will cost an estimated $25,000 and will permit boats to pass under.

Fishing Pier Here Gains Official OK

A fishing pier, or piers, proposed by Bernard B. Weksler, secretary of the Recreation Advisory Board, has gained support from fellow board members and the Coral Gables City Commission. No formal action has been taken by the Commission, but the idea has received supporting comment. Weksler first made the proposal several weeks ago and formally before the Recreation Advisory Board at its Sept. 11 meeting. Mentioned as possible sites are the Tahiti Beach area, the Coral Gables Waterway by the Biltmore Golf Course, Gables by-the Sea and Snapper Creek Canal, all good fishing areas according to local fishermen.

She Turns Detective For a Night

A shopowner's do it yourself police work almost paid off—but not quite Saturday night. Marjorie Cullen, owner of Riviera Beauty Salon, 4616 Le Jeune Rd., which has been burglarized several times in recent months, spotted the culprit Saturday at 9:30 p.m., but he got away. The owner said she got a good look at the burglar and could identify him if she saw him again. He sped out of the alley alongside the beauty shop when the owner pulled in to check. The suspected burglar, whose vehicle had been spotted around the shop before, drove a station wagon. Beauty supplies have been the target of the thief.

Merchants' Committees Are Named

The Retail Merchants Division of the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce re-shuffled some of its committee chairmen at the Sept. 28 meeting. Named to the Christmas Decorations Committee was Robert Mooreman. Other appointments were Madeline McEldowney, promotion and advertising; Frank Maury, management & sales training; Ed Crowley, University relations; Don Mullen, Bargain Days; Mace Harris, legislative & patriotic; Don Mullen, Easter fashion; Cope Guice, merchants ethics; and Jacques Meilout, travel.
