Henry Gibson, Lawyer, 79

Services were held Tuesday for Henry King Gibson, 3504 Durango St., who died Saturday. He was 79. Mr. Gibson, a lawyer, ran for the U.S. Senate in 1944, but was defeated. The Gableite came here 35 years ago from Cincinnati. He attended the First Presbyterian Church of Coral Gables and was a member of the Miami Club, the Committee of 100, the Dade County and American Bar Associations, the Masons and the Shrine. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; three sons; one daughter; and nine grandchildren. The family suggests contributions made to the Heart Fund.

Harry Buttorff, Accountant

Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Francis G. Baynes, same address as Mrs. Larkin; and three grandchildren. ★ ★ ★ Services were held Tuesday for Harry W. Buttorff, 1033 Mariana Ave., who died Sunday. Buttorff, a retired accountant, is survived by his wife, Genyra.

Stanley Hamly, Retired Auditor

Private services for Stanley Hamly, 87, 219 Ridgewood Rd., were held Saturday at Van Orsdel's Coral Gables Chapel. Mr. Hamly, who died Friday, came here from Denver, Colo., 41 years ago. A retired auditor, he was a member of the Kiwanis Club and the Masons. He is survived by his wife, Rose; two daughters, Katherine and Rosemary, all of Coral Gables; and two sons, Charles, Coral Gables, and Rowland, Orlando; four grandchildren.

Ethel Penrose, Here 31 Years

Services for Mrs. Ethel B. Penrose, 77, of 1426 Mercado Ave., were held Wednesday at Van Orsdel's Coral Gables Mortuary. She died Sept. 26. Mrs. Penrose came here from Chicago 31 years ago. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Survivors include her husband, George, four sisters and five brothers.

Mrs. Larkin, 67, Lived on Venetia

★ ★ ★ Requiem Mass was said Tuesday in the Church of the Little Flower for Mrs. Marie E. Larkin, 1420 Venetia Ave., who died Saturday. She was 67. Burial will be in New York.

Judaism Study Open To Public

Courses in Judaism begin Tuesday at 8 p.m. at Temple Judea. The temple is sponsoring a program of adult education to which the public is invited. Two courses will meet on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month for five sessions.

Dr. Strain Will Preach

The University Baptist Church pulpit on Layman's Day Sunday will be filled by an international surgeon, teacher and Christian missionary, Gableite Dr. Richard E. Strain. His subject will be, "Resurrecting the Forgotten Layman." Dr. Strain went as a medical missionary to Huchow, China. It was there that he met Ann Price, also a missionary and to whom he was married in 1939. From 1939 until 1942 he served as a medical missionary in India. Returning to this country during World War II, he became visiting surgeon in Vanderbilt Medical School in Nashville, Tenn., until he came to the University of Miami as an assistant professor of neurosurgery.

Doctors' Hospital Entertains Group

Doctors' Hospital showed off itself to its Citizens Advisory Committee at a dinner Tuesday night at the hospital. About 45 people attended. The committee is composed of area citizens, headed by Sam McCormick, who are interested in the institution. The group formed about six months ago, Dr. Charles H. McDevitt Jr., chairman of the board of trustees, showed slides.
