Look Into This 47-Window Home on Coral Way

By HELEN REYNOLDS Times Society Editor Margaret (Mrs. Jerome) Wood, 1001 Coral Way, goes along with President Kennedy on the rocking chair deal, but she doesnt' like his "do-nothing-policy administration" her partisan estimate of it. Mrs. Wood has a rocking chair in each of her three upstairs bedrooms and one in her kitchen bay window. There she can sit and rock. Her telephone is in he bay window seat and when she is tired of talking or planning (she has many interests) she can look out to the never-ending travel on Coral Way, a street shaded with towering Florida oaks. With its 47 windows, the house commands a beautiful view and a curved walk, with ancient six-foot oak gates, leads to a large front porch. Blooming vines and trees shade this gate, and it is in one of the four landscaped corners of Coral Way and Granada Boulevard. Mr. and Mrs. Wood have two children. They are Mary Ann, Mrs. Willard Arnold, and Jerome Jr. Jerry is a freshman at Christopher Columbus High School and likes football. The Arnolds reside in Augusta, a suburb of Indianapolis, Ind. They have two young sons, Kevin and Paul. Mrs. Wood is a Republican and he's a Democrat. But she says, "We never fight about political preference, and I do not believe in one's religious faith govering one's political affairs." While the house is old, Margaret Wood has engineered remodeling the decor within. Wall-to-wall carpeting in a soft, pink beige is underfoot and modern furniture is installed. However, Margaret has an heirloom or two which she prizes. In the kitchen, "Mr. Johnathan," an ancient clock sits, on his own shelf. When we asked if he chimed, Margaret said, "well, once in a while, but he's pretty old. He was built in 1827." In the sun room or porch off the dining room on the wall hangs a wooden curved stair named "Stairway to the Stars," a piece she bought from the Dollquesters years ago when they were on Giralda. Descending the stair are doll replicas of John Sebastian Bach and his wife and two children. Open book shelves from floor to ceiling line the long passage way to the master bedroom on the first floor. That's equipped with a large television set. But Margaret says she is a "night" reader so she sleeps upstairs, with bed, book and candle where she can relax after a busy day. As for her own administration, Mrs. Wood belongs to the Anti-Communist Crusade and the Property Home Owners Association. She proudly tells you that when the City turned down the renting of rooms in Coral Gables homes, she fought and the City amended its decree. She is also a member of St. Theresa's ladies guild, the "Come Alongs," made up of a revolving group of new members of the Coral Gables Welcome Wagon Club who help at Christmas with gifts and food for charities. Mrs. Wood is also a member of the Coral Gables Civic Club and was hostess Thurs-day of last week for the club's annual afternoon reception honoring its president, Mrs. Joseph C. Franzen, 1352 Aguilla Ave. MRS. JEROME WOOD AT HOME ON PORCH FROM BALCONY, CORAL WAY VIEW
