Riviera Women Elect Officers
Members of the Riviera Country Club Women's Golf Association went about their nine hole low putts tournament Tuesday just as if it weren't the biggest day of the year for the organization. There was the installation of new officers, cocktail party at 5:30 p.m. and dinner at 7 o'clock. However, at noon they were lunching in the ladies locker room, "The Dungeon," as they call it. Mrs. Everett Butler won the low putts with 12; Mrs. Kapers Gibson was second with 13, and Mrs. William P. Simmons was third with 15. If a player makes a deuce on any hole, she wins a new golf ball. Mrs. Harry N. Kerr, 1540 Certosa Ave., was the lucky gal, on the 10th hole with a par three. We chatted with Mrs. A. M. Franklin, the retiring chairman, who said they were installing the new officers at 3:30 p.m. They are Mrs. Phil J. Laurence, 1205 Castile Ave., the new chairman; Mrs. Horace Cordes, 4315 San Amaro Dr., the new golf chairman. At 5:30 p.m. and formally dressed, cocktails would be served with dinner at 7 p.m. at the club for the members and their husbands. The Women's Golf Association was founded in 1947 by Mrs. C. H. Reeder, and there were 48 members including Mrs. Ray E. Strohecker, 4501 San Amaro Dr. and Mrs. Thomas J. Cook, 5515 Orduna Dr., who are still playing golf and were there for all the festivities Tuesday.
