PEOPLE Places & Things

John Bitter, dean of the school of Music, University of Miami, will present a program of chamber music with faculty members participating, Sunday at the Musicians Club weekly program. The program at 4 p.m. will be followed by tea. It is open to the public. Celebrating its sixth year as members of the National Secretaries Association International, the Coral Gables Chapter will hold a dinnermeeting at 7 p.m. today (Thursday) at the Coral Gables Country Club. Mrs. Marie Starr, immediate past international secretary, will be present. Coral Gables members of the South African Violet Club will join area members at 8 p.m. today (Thursday) at Suniland Hall, 11539 So. Dixie Hwy., for installation of new officers. Louis Daigle, county agent, will show slides on entomology. Karen Christiansen, daughter of the Edward Christiansens of 6312 Riviera Dr., will be hostess for the annual Settlement School coffee Friday, Nov. 3, a project of the Pi Beta Phi alumnae club. The party, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., is to acquaint the public with the sale of "Arrowcraft." Arrowcraft hand-woven articles are made at the school in Gatlinburg, Tenn. As an added attraction at this year's coffee, Mrs. Osma Gallinger Tod, author of "The Joy of Hand Weaving," will put on a demonstration of handweaving. Mrs. Jerry Clarke and Mrs. Gene Holbrook are coordinators of the affair. Orchids to five "50" year members of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority alumnae club. They are Mrs. Jay V. Carpenter, 1306 Castile Ave.; Mrs. James J. Helm, 1524 San Reno Ave.; Mrs. Vern F. Dobbins, 324 Velarde Ave.; Mrs. A. V. McCulloch, and Mrs. Robert Miller Harris, of Miami. Jerry J. Scohier, son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond M. Scohier, 544 Vittorio Ave., is undergoing nine weeks' basic training as a seaman recruit at Naval Training Center, Great Lakes, Ill. Dr. Jay F. W. Pearson, president of the University of Miami, told members of the UM Women's Club monthly meeting, that he visited Kyung Hee, the University of Korea, when he and Mrs. Pearson took their trip abroad. He compared the university there with our university in Coral Gables, said they are both independent universities, the only difference being that Kyung Hee has been burned out three times. Mrs. Frank W. Guilford, 4310 San Amara Dr., the new president of the senior auxiliary, was honored also. The coffee was held at the home of Mr and Mrs. George M.
