Church Can Park But Unofficially

Granada Presbyterian Church will be able to use newly acquired property for parking — but not with a formal agreement. Residents in the area of the property — the southeast corner of Bird Road and Granada Boulevard — balked at a gentlemen's agreement and opposed the church's plan in asking the City Commission Tuesday to change the zoning on the lot from residential to special use. But they did indicate they were willing to look the other way on Sunday's and special holidays to allow church members to use the lot. In other actions, the City Commission: Rejected as too high a $2,703 bid for construction of a park shelter at Sunrise Harbour. The estimate had been $1,600. Approved a contract with Texaco to furnish diesel fuel oil at the rate of .1063 a gallon for a cost of $26,885 a year. Deferred a request by University Cabs, Inc., for six additional cabs until Yellow Cab Co. can be heard from. Voted Unanimously to grant free parking on all metered on and off street parking during Coral Gables Bargain Days, April 26, 27 and 28. Approved a request by Gerard Schainuck to build a two-story apartment building at Sunrise Harbour.

RMD Will Triple Size of Its Board of Directors

The Retail Merchants Division Board will be tripled in size next year. Presently composed of 10 members, the board will be expanded to 30, according to Sam Miller, president. RMD seeks to broaden its base and extend its communications channels, Miller said of the new move. Five new directors are scheduled to be picked tomorrow (Friday) from among 10 nominees. Five directors will holdover. Ten new men will then be elected by RMD membership, Miller said, and the remaining 10 will be appointed by the other 20 to serve on the board. And ten of the directors will be rotated annually rather than five. Ten directors will be rotated annually by appointment. A five-man executive committee will meet monthly to set up business for the regular 30-man monthly board meeting two weeks later.
