Yule More Than Tinsel, Minister Cautions UDC

We must go beyond the tinsel and the trimming and touch the heart of Christ, to understand the full meaning of Christmas, the Rev. Richard Blanchard told members of the United Daughters of the Confederacy Monday afternoon. Speaking to 70 members of the Southern Cross Chapter at their Christmas party at the Musicians Club, 303 Minorca, the pastor of Trinity Methodist Church said without Christ time would be like a symphony without a melody. The minister, who was born in China while his parents were missionaries there, pointed out that all our history hinges on Christmas. It is explained in terms of before and after Christ. He concluded that everyone would have a more lovely Christmas if they resigned themselves to the will of God seeing themselves as God sees them—as his children—instead of seeing themselves at their worst, such as when they lose their temper needlessly. After speaking, he sang Christmas Star, a song which he composed two years ago. He also plays the trombone. Last Sunday, his congregation gave him an early Christmas gift. He and his wife were given a trip to the Holy Land, which they plan to take this spring or summer.
