The Zaichicks Will Live At Gainesville, Florida
Mrs. Gerald Barton Zaichick Residing in Gainesville are Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Barton Zaichick. Their wedding took place Sunday at the Seville Hotel at 7 p.m. and was followed by a reception and seated dinner. The bride, the former Miss Barbara Andrews, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Robert Andrews of 5911 SW 5th Terr. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Zaichick, 345 SW 25th Rd. For her wedding, the bride wore a white gown of peau de soie with Chantilly lace applique around the bodice and down the front panel of the skirt and encircling the skirt ending in a cathedral train. Her veil fell from a petal headpiece of peau-taffeta etched in Chantilly lace and she carried a bouquet of white orchids and lily of the valley. Miss Joan Kaufman, cousin of the bride, was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Miss Rhoda Lee Zaichick, sister of the groom; Miss Marion Posner, Miss Susan Stiller and Miss Beverly Jacobson. They wore identical gowns of deep-purple peau-taffeta made cocktail length with three-quarter sleeves. Joel Fleisher was best man. Ushers were Stephen Andrews, brother of the bride; Joel Levin, Donald Bierman and David Rozen. The bride will be a June graduate at the University of Florida's School of Education. She is a member of Alpha Epsilon Phi sorority. She was named the sorority's International sweetheart and she is the sweetheart of her husband's fraternity. The groom will graduate next December from the UF School of Electrical Engineering where he is a member of the Alpha Epsilon Pi, social fraternity and AIRE-IRE, engineering fraternity. The couple took a honeymoon trip to Nassau.
2 Youths to Tell About Life Under Castro
By EUNICE TALL Correspondent The Palmetto High School Parent Teachers Association is sponsoring a series of discussion groups entitled "Americanism vs. Communism" every Tuesday evening at 8 p.m. in the Palmetto auditorium. "Communism and Youth" will be the theme of the discussion group Feb. 13. Two teenage boys who lived under a Communist government in Cuba will address the membership. They are Luis DeVelazco, a junior at Coral Gables High School, and Raul DeCespedes, a former student at Hialeah High School. A short film, "The Spirit of Enterprise," will be shown. PTA members Mrs. William VanderBrook is chairman of this series. Walter Van Poyck is moderator for the series. NAVY GRANT Tom Owens, Dennis Ritchie and Tom Brown, Palmetto seniors, are under consideration for an NROTC scholarship valued at $8,000. The boys will be interviewed Feb. 21 by the scholarship reviewing board in Jacksonville. Tom Owens is president of Palmetto's Wheel Club, and an active member in National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, (math honorary), and Phi Beta Chi (science honorary), and the Gymnastics Team. Dennis Ritchie plays varsity basketball for Palmetto and is a member of Wheel Club. Tom Brown is a member of National Honor Society, Key Club, and the Chess Club. Tom was a Palmetto delegate to Boys' State last year. THESPIANS Newly elected officers of Palmetto's Thespians chapter are Daurin Hollingsworth, president; Norma Tanner, vice president; Cathy Copley, recording secretary; Diane Ward, corresponding secretary; and Judy Ferrer, treasurer. WHEEL CLUB Wheel Club of Palmetto, sponsored by Rotary, accepted 26 new members last week. Students were rated by Palmetto teachers on character, scholarship, co-operation, and leadership. New members in the senior class are Ray Ferrell, Jim Giffen, D. Howard, Sandy King and Jim Pearson. Juniors: Bob Hixson, Joe Willson, Mike Wessler, Gary Anderson, Charlie Stewart, Jon Mooy, Dick Penn, Marc West, Terry Douthit, Ronald Sheaffer, Pete Rivenbark, Fred Hasecke and John Olsson. Sophomores: P. Vetz, Leslie Coggins, Walter Trafton, Mike Hernandez, A. Frawbush, Stuart Colby, Bruce Kane, and Bob Margolin. Newly elected officers of Wheel are Tom Owens, president; Nate Hayes, vice president; Ray MacDougall, secretary; Dick Smith, treasurer, Dale Heckerling, parliamentarian; Jeff Powell, chaplain; Sam Woods, sergeant-at-arms; Claude Phillips senior director; and Erv Grau, junior director.
