NOT DISAPPOINTED
Covering the opening of the Palmaire Country Club in Pompano proved quite rewarding for Marty Aronow, Coral Gables photographer, and columnist with The Guide, Ron Levitt. They were sent to photograph Howdy Doody and wound up meeting and photographing Jayne Mansfield.

'Best Friends' in Doghouse Because They Bark
(Continued From P. 1) Metro's Animal Control, was rounding up unlicensed dogs and dangerous animals, he said. "Ninety-five per cent of our dog barking complaints are handled without a warrant," said Capt. J. K. Stephens of the South Miami Police Department. "We don't get too many." "It's a common complaint, but a deep one," said Sgt. Leonard Collins," of the West Miami Police Department. He, like the others, is a dog lover and dislikes to handle this type of gripe. But they all admit that there is such a thing as a legitimate complaint about barking dogs - even if the nuisance is difficult to define. In the final analysis, they agreed, it's up to the judge. How do you go about complaining about a barking dog? Whether you live in the unincorporated area, Coral Gables, South or West Miami, the procedure is similar - except you may call a different agency. In the county, you may get action by calling either Sheriff's Department or the State Attorney's office. Gableites, South and West Miamians may get remedy either through the local police department or through the Sheriff's Department of State Attorney's office. That's because their cities are incorporated. will contact the offending party and try to enlist his cooperation. Where local police will not take direct action and issue a summons, Metro officers are authorized to make an arrest if they witness the barking between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. But if the officer has not witnessed the barking or does not feel it is sufficiently annoying, the person making the complaint must sign the affidavit. In Coral Gables and South Miami, the complainant may take the municipal court route or the Metro Court route. But county and West Miami residents must file in Metro Court to get relief. The Coral Gables ordinance covering dog barking is broad and does not stipulate hours-only night time. The South Miami ordinance is also broad and leaves it pretty much up to the complainant and the court. Officers have the power of arrest but are reluctant to use it in these cases. In any case, whoever you call but again, it's up to the reluctant to use it in these cases. But what about persons working nights and sleeping days? This is mcre difficult, the lawmen agreed. A recent Circuit Court decision involving a police officer and a radio station executive greatly weakened the Merto Ordinance relating to barking dogs, but again, it's up to the judge to decide on the mertis of each case. If you feel strong enough about your complaint - and haven't gotten any cooperation - you can always take it to court. Just make certain you have the right person in court.
