These Men Want to Be S. Miami Mayor
MAYOR TEVIS Mayor Tevis Tries For Fourth Term Mayor Paul U. Tevis will try for an unprecedented fourth consecutive term in Tuesday's South Miami City Council election. He is a veteran of nine years service in the council. The 68-year-old Annapolis graduate is a veteran of both World Wars. After the Japanese surrender, he returned to Miami. His first term with the City Council was in 1951. In 1956 he was elected mayor for the first time. Between wars he introduced the Frigidaire line for General Motors in Europe. Presently, Tevis is manager of Sunset Court Mortgage Co. The Anderson, Ind., native, lost a leg in 1958 following a blood clot, but returned to his job after recuperating. The Tevis' live at 5834 SW 80th St. They have two children and four grandchildren. Tevis is an honorary member of Kiwanis, Jaycees, serves on the board at South Miami Hospital, is a member of the Elks, past commander of the VFW, member of the Moose and Kings Bay Country Club.
E. C. Vining, Area Native, Is Candidate
ED VINING Edward C. Vining Jr., an attorney with offices in Miami, is a candidate for mayor in the South Miami City Council. A native of Miami Vining has lived here all his life with the exception of the two years he spent in the U. S. Army Medical Corps. and at the University of Florida. Vining received his bachelor's in business administration from UF and a law degree from the University of Miami Law School. He is a member of the law firm of Vining and Vining, with his father. The Vinings, who have resided at 7112 SW 65th Ave., in South Miami since 1959, have one child, Brett, 2. Vining is a former registered real estate broker. His club memberships include the Coral Gables Country Club, Jaycees, UM Law School Alumni, UM Alumni Association, UF Alumni Association, Sigma Nu, Delta Theta Phi, Bar and Gavel Dade County Bar Association, Florida Bar Association, the University Club and Kiwanis.

DAVID POPPER David Popper, an attorney, will oppose Mayor Paul U. Tevis for mayor. Popper, a Detroit native, is a graduate of the University of Arizona where he was a member of the varsity football team and Sigma Chi fraternity. In 1952 he was graduated from the University of Miami Law School. He was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1952 and has since been admitted to practice before the U. S. Supreme Court; U. S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida; Board of Immigration Appeals and Interstate Commerce Commission. Popper is a partner with Brunstetter, Netter, Popper and Kolodgy. He has been active in civic affairs, having served as president of the Exchange Club of South Dade and the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce. The Poppers, who live at 5900 SW 85th St., have three sons, David, 7, Richard, 5, and Bruce, 4.
