Oh, my aching back! If I may get personal in this column, that's exactly how I feel. This past weekend, at the opening Dinner Dance at the Westbrooke Country Club, I did the twist, the hully-gully and a few of the other new dance steps. Then, the Joe Caudells of Coral Gables suggested to the orchestra leader that they play the new "French Hully-Hully." I had heard of this latest addition to the twist and hully-gully repertoire, but hadn't seen it performed or hadn't attempted it - but after watching several couples on the floor go through the paces - I decided I would give it a "whirl" myself. And that was Saturday night . . . Sunday morning my back ached - Monday morning my back ached - Tuesday morning my back ached . . . but this newest dance step still interests me! And I intend to give it another try quite soon. That is, provided I can straighten up by the end of the week!! * * * MISCELLANEOUS . MEMOS: You can expect about eight southwest and Gables residents to seek the County Commission seat in District One being vacated by Commissioner Bob Haverfield. Forrest Maurer, Gene Flynn and Ainsley Ferdie are almost certain to enter the race. Five others say they are "considering" it . . . You can expect home-builders in the southern half of the county to go ahead with their projects on an increased scale. The welcome news regarding Aerojet's plant location in South Dade has been the best news for the housing industry in several years. At least two board members of the big West Dade Citizen's Association are considering running for a seat on the Dade County School Board. One of these is a well-known "prof" at the U of M. There are a number of suburban wives who refuse to use the Palmetto By-Pass since the rash of mishaps on the Expressway. Several civic groups throughout Dade are urging that the Expressway be lit up at night . . . watch for three more supermarkets to be built within the next six months - all on Bird Road between 87th Ave. and 112th Avenue . . . and Gasoline Alley - Coral Way between 67th and 87th Avenues - had another service station ground-breaking this week!!! If it keeps up, there will be more gas stations than cars!! Eve Diskin of Southwest Miami and Elsa Shenkman of South Miami now teaching Yoga and Interpretative Dancing respectively at the Westbrooke Country Club . . . the Auto Show at Dinner Key reportedly drawing huge crowds. It's the first time the show has been held in several years. A shopping center proposed a few years back for the western section of Bird is far from dead - announcement is expected any time now on the construction go-ahead.
