Phone Office Wins Praise For Design

The Kendall Central Office of Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Co. is one of the tops in looks among 370 telephone buildings owned by the system. Only the Hialeah office also figured in the Southern Bell system awards. The Kendall building, also known as the 27 Office, is located at 8610 SW 107th Ave. The awards, are intended to stimulate interest in improving architectural design, according to Howard E. Phillips, building engineer of the American Telephone and Telegraph Co., parent firm of the Bell System. According to William L. Gale, Gagles, district manager, the Bells system has more than 15,000 buildings and has spent more than $1 billion for new buildings in the past five years.

Landscape Course Slated For Those Who Can't

Are you disappointed with your attempts at landscaping? The Florida Federation of Garden Clubs and the University of Miami Adult Division have joined hands to present a three-day landscaping school, April 16-18. The courses are aimed at the Garden Clubs throughout the nation, but any one may attend. Only Garden Club members will be required to take the final examination, however. Application forms for the course may be obtained through the University or Garden Clubs. The fee is $15 and an additional $1 for those qualified to take the exam.

Girls Head for Tropical

More than 1,200 Girl Scouts from Dade County will gather for Camporee Weekend at Tropical Park Race Track, Feb. 16-18. The scouts, who will set up a tent city, will celebrate the Golden Anniversary of Girl Scouting in the United States. Hundreds of girls carrying flags will participate in a pageant Saturday night, Feb. 17, which will trace Girl Scout progress through 50 years. The program begins at 7 p.m. Mrs. Charles H. Finkelstein, 815 Catalonia Ave., president of the Dade County Council, will open the ceremony. Junior and senior high school girls will live in the encampments but Brownies will join some of the festivities. The week-end activities include competitions, displays, outdoor cooking, demonstrations of camping and scouting skills, and visiting among the troops.
