"What did Mrs. J. Forrest Diehl do on her trip to Europe this summer? Why visit the flower shows of course. Retiring first vice president of the Coral Gables Garden Club and an accredited flower show judge, Mildred Diehl first attended the orchid show in London in early May, and then the Chelsea Flower Show, also in London, so huge it takes seven tents to house the entries. "I saw sweetpeas, the most beautiful, with foot-long stems," she said. It was Mr. and Mrs. Diehl's first trip abroad. They took in the Passion Play at Oberammergau and visited the stadium in Rome, place of the Olympic contest but returned home in time to see it via TV and enjoyed it more. "We were so homesick for Coral Gables and home that we took a jet home," Mildred said. Ceil Shouse who entered Randolph-Macon College for Women, Lynchburg, Va., on Sept. 12, writes her mother Tinsley (Ms. John Felix) Shouse, 2718 Alhambra Cir., that "my laundry comes back 'folded' of all things" Tinsley says, "she'll learn not to expect blouses and skirts on hangers with nary a fold or wrinkle." Ciel is majoring in history and says that her roommate is from Houston, Texas. Also at Randolph-Macon from the Gables are Patricia Kehoe and Carolyn Butler. Meri (Mrs. Thomas W.) Hegler, 12855 SW 81st Ave., takes time out from looking after her 10-week-old son, to handle publicity for the Coco Plum Womn's Club. Meri does a good job, she knows deadlines; for she used to be a reporter herself. As to newcomer, Johnathan Thorn Hegler, known as "J. T.," he has a sister, Christina, who become very grown up this fall. At 6 years of age she entered the first grade at Palmetto Elementary School. 74 Years A Reporter "Mrs. Lynda Lee Bryan, the nation's oldest reporter will be honored Friday, Oct. 21 after 74 years of reporting." The above quote is the opening sentence from a copy of an associated Press story about the 88-year-old Talbottom, Ga., writer who had her first newspaper copy published at the age of 14. Mrs. Bryan is the aunt of Miss Jean Lee, of the Sottile Building firm, who was recently transferred from Coral Gables to the company's Pan American Bank, Miami. Jean says her Aunt Lynda who is also the town's librarian, is very alert and was here last year when her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John W. Lee of 1632 SW 12th St. and members of the First Presbyterian Church of Coral Gables for the past 25 years, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. Mrs. Bryan will be honored at the "Talbotton Homecoming in Honor of Mrs. Bryan" sponsored by the Talbotton Lions Club in cooperation of the people of Talbot County and the affair is expected to be the largest event ever held in Talbotton. Mr. and Mrs. Courtney Fondren and their son Gary will motor to New Orleans over the Thanksgiving Day holiday to visit their daughter, and sister, Mona Tel who is a freshman at Sophie Newcomb College for Women, New Orleans. Gary, who has entered the University of Miami has just finished a four-year tour of duty with the United States Air Focre. He was stationed almost all of the time in London and Africa. This will be the first time he will have seen his sister, since she visited him two yeas ago in London when, with her parents, she made a trip abroad.
