Joe Godwin Named To Post With Sunoco

Joe L. Godwin, who operates service stations at 195 Bird Road and 2214 Ponce de Leon Blvd., has been elected to a recently-formed council of Sunoco dealers and Sun Oil Co. sales managers. Sun's Southeastern regional dealer advisory council was created to effect closer commiication between the company and its dealers and to formulate service station programs designed to improve services to motorists in Florida and southern Georgia. Godwin attended public schools in Ehren, after which he worked at the Coral Gables Garage. He has operated Sunoco stations for 27 years. A World War II Army veteran, Godwin is a member of the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks, Coral Gables, and the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce. He and his wife, the former Helen Muriel Smith, were married at Fort Lauderdale in 1935. They live at 2222 SW 17th St.

School Addition Planner Named

Gordon Severud, Miami architect, has been selected as planner for an eight-classroom addition to Everglades Elementary School, 8375 SW 16th St. Severud, the architect for the ori al building completed several years ago, said bids for the addition will be due sometime in January and work will begin soon afterward. The school contains some 20 classrooms now, six portable classrooms and approximately 765 children.

Perrine Acreage Sold For $16,700

Two and a half acres located three blocks east of the downtown Perrine Shopping Center sold this week for $16,700, according to a report from the Keyes Company's Kendall office. Buyer of the property, now in mangogrove, is Bud Weiss, owner of Bud's Imported Cars in Kendall. Sale included a small house on the property. Weiss purchased the tract as an investment. George Sirmans, also of Perrine, sold the property with Cliff Suchman, of Keyes Kendall office, handling the transaction.

B. U. Pater Attends Sales Conference

B. V. Pater of Coral Gables, sales representative in Dade County for Investors Diversified Service, Inc., attended a sales training conference recently in Minneapolis. Pater, 2509 Anderson Rd., joined the 66-year-old investment corporation in January of this year.

Gableite Named To Head Mutual Insurance Agents

Georg R. McKiever, prominent Coral Gables insurance agent, has been elected president of the National Association of Mutual Isurance Agents. McKiever was installed at ceremonies held in Washington, D. C., Wednesday. He has served as first vice president. In the insurance business in this area since 1945, McKiever is president of Elliot and McKiever, an insurance firm doing business at 2828 West Flagler St. Citizens Committee McKiever, a native of Sumter, S. C., has served as secretary of the Coral Gables Citizens Committee and on the Coral Gables Insurance Advisory Committee. He is also vice president and director of the Greater Miami Better Business Bureau and has served on the Dade County Citizens Committee on Liability Rates. Currently, he is vice foreman on the Dade County Grand Jury, served as president of the Florida Association of Mutual Insurance Agents and is a member of the Dade County Mutual Agents Association. Church Affiliation McKiever is also a member of the Little Flower Church, St. Vincent de Paul Society and Knights of Columbus. He received his bachelor of arts degree from Mount St. Mary's College in Emmitsburg, Md. McKiever lives with his wife, Hilda, at 2601 Alhambra Cir. They have one daughter, Mrs. George Sovich, who lives in Charleston, W. Va. GEORGE McKIEVER

Attends 17th Sales School

Bernard Litman, 9601 SW 62nd Ct., staff supervisor of the Walter M. Pierce agency for the Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Co. in Miami, has returned from his company's 17th school in sales management, held in Chicopee, Mass. Litman was among 21 general agents, district managers and staff supervisors who attended from 19 agencies in 13 states. Since its organization in 1948, the sales management school has instructed several hundred representatives of Massachusetts Mutual. All phases of sales management were covered during the one-week school, with emphasis on the selection and training of new sales personnel.

Attends Convention

Stanley Kerestes, 3700 Alhambra Circle, attended the 71st annual convention of the National Association of Life Underwriters in Washington, D.C., as a representative of the Biscayne Office of the New York Life Insurance Co. Kerestes is a member of the local National Association of Life Underwriters founded in 1890.

Gableite Is Back With Advertising Firm

William R. Johnson, 1453 Blue Road, has rejoined the advertising firm of Bishopric, Green, Fielden, Inc., as senior account executive. His appointment is announced by Karl Bishopric, president. Johnson, 29, was formerly with B.G.F. from 1955 to 1958 when he resigned to form an English language weekly newspaper in Ciudad Trujillo, Dominican Republic. Although the publication was a success, diplomatic sanctions against the Dominican Republic by the United States forced the paper to close last summer, and Johnson returned to Miami. Johnson speaks Spanish fluently, and formerly served as foreign business correspondent for "International Markets," a Dun and Bradstreet publication. Single, a graduate of the University of Miami and a three-year Army veteran, he has made his home in Coral Gables since 1949. WILLIAM JOHNSON

Kart Center To Be Built

A one-story, 60 by 40 foot amusement center featuring rental Kart rides will be constructed at SW 87th Ave. and 131st St., according to Miami Builders' Exchange. Burt Construction Co., of Miami, was the lowest of six contractors bidding for the job which is expected to be completed in 60 days. Architect is Theodore Gottfried, of Miami. No contract has been awarded yet. The amusement center will be built around a one and a half acre track on which six Karts will run at a time. Owner of the center is Scully Associates, Inc., of Miami.

An additional 6,000 seats are assured for the Gator Bowl football classic Dec. 31. This will boost capacity of the Jacksonville stadium to about 50,000.

10-Minute Break Costs Him A Spare

Charles Laucks, 3721 Harlano, left his car for just 10 minutes at his office at 2710 Ponce de Leon Blvd. Friday. When he returned, he told Coral Gables police, the spare tire was gone. The loss was estimated at $40.
