Woman Dies After Fall At Bus Station

A 42-year-old West Miami woman, injured in a fall at the Coral Gables Bus Terminal Jan. 4, died Saturday, three days later. Mrs. Marie L. Coyner, the mother of two children, died at Doctors' Hospital at 4 p.m. Saturday of injuries suffered in the fall at the terminal. Mrs. Coyner, the wife of Wilford Coyner, of 1901 SW 63rd Ct., received emergency treatment for head and facial injuries following the fall. Unconscious Condition Coral Gables Firemen Richard A. Gossett and Edwin N. Pelton Jr., found Mrs. Coyner in an unconscious condition when they rushed across the street from the fire station to the scene shortly before 5 p.m. The victim, who either tripped or fell, had a laceration of the nose and a lump on the back of the head, according to Gossett and Pelton. She was rushed to Doctors' Hospital, still unconscious and listed in "critical" condition. But she appeared to improve the next day and her condition was changed to "serious." Condition Worsened Her condition worsened later, however, and she died almost exactly three days after the accident. Services and burial were held at Dublin, Ga., from which Mrs. Coyner came to the Miami area 22 years ago. She had a son, Steven and daughter, Linda.

Signs Getting Too Big, Gaudy, Merchants Say

An alert was sounded this week in the battle to keep Coral Gables a quality shopping district. The signal was flashed by Albert Friedman, head of the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce Retail Merchants Division. Friedman said the Division is alarmed over the appearance of large signs in the windows of several Miracle Mile stores. The signs, Friedman declared, violate the spirit of the city ordinance which is aimed at keeping gaudy advertisements from ruining the quality aspect of local shopping. This ordinance provides that window signs are not to exceed 250 square inches and must not be affixed to windows. The board of directors of the Retail Merchants Division will seek to remedy the situation by requesting that the ordinance be amended to require signs to be 18-inches from the window. "We have to hold the line against any tendency to turn Coral Gables into a gaudy, bargain-type shopping area filled with unattractive, offensive signs, Friedman said in elaborating on his concern.
