Miss Averbuck, Mr. Richardson Are Engaged

Mrs. Maxine Wiley of South Park, Hanover, N. H., formerly of Coral Gables, has announced the engagement of her daughter, Miss Regina Wiley Averbuck, to David Richardson, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Maurice Richardson of 5790 SW 54th Ter. No date has been set for the wedding. The bride-elect was graduated from Coral Gables High School and is presently a senior at Smith College, Northampton, Mass. Her fiance was also graduated from Coral Gables High School and is a member of the senior class at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, N. Y.

Opera Program Is On Agenda

The Coral Gables Music Club will observe its annual opera program Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at the Coral Gables Woman's Club house. Mrs. Jack Carlton, a past president of the club who was president of the Opera Guild for 10 years, will be mistress of ceremonies. Edward Clarke of the University of Miami School of Music will tell the story of the upcoming Opera "Andrea Chenier", using recordings from the Rome Opera, La Scala, featuring chorus and orchestration. A tea will follow the program.

Peruvian Art Is Featured

Ancient Peruvian Art from the John Wise Collection will be shown at the Joe and Emily Lowe Art Gallery beginning Friday, Jan. 13, through Feb. 26. Members preview will take place today, Jan. 12, from 8 to 10 p.m., with C. Clay Aldridge lecturing on "Peruvian Textiles." The Human Figure in Oriental Art will be shown Jan. 13 through Feb. 26. Photographs by Klara Farkas and Jacques Wolfe will be shown Feb. 7 through Feb. 26 at the Gallery, which is located on the campus of the University of Miami.

Engineers Wives Club Will Install

Mrs. H. J. Rush will be installed as president of the Eastern Air Lines Flight Engineers Wives Club at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Garden Restaurant. Mrs. Rush will receive the gavel from Mrs. J. A. Hendricks, the founder president of the club, now observing its first year of organization. A candlelight ceremony with the theme red carnations (club flower) will be used in the installation. Mrs. G. F. Arwood is installing chairman.

Conservation Provides Topic

Mrs. L. R. Fast, 6060 SW 12th St., will be hostess at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday for the January meeting of the Banyan Garden Club. Mrs. Andrew A. Gurke will be the speaker. Conservation will be the program. Luncheon will follow the meeting with hostesses Mrs. Joseph Younger, Mrs. L. B. Lyman and Mrs. Roscoe Carver serving.

Patriot Group Meets Today

Mrs. James B. Townsend of Miami Shores will be hostess for today's meeting of members of the Gov. John West Chapter, Daughters of the American Colonists. Mrs. J. P. Simmons, regent, will preside at the board meeting. Delegates and alternates will be elected to the State Assembly to be held in March at Daytona Beach. Mrs. Lloyd Rees, 1418 Cecelia Ave., will give a book review. Mrs. William E. Walbridge, Mrs. Raymond Martin and Mrs. William E. Gould are assisting hostesses.

THE GOLDEN MOMENTS of childhood are sometimes sprinkled with moments of mental anguish as a child becomes beset with a personal problem. Today, these girls at Ludlam Elementary School gayly skip about this tree. But tomorrow, a serious problem could cast its shadow into the life of one of these same girls. Recognizing that a child is not immune to problems because of youth, the PTA at Ludlam invited Judge W. R. Culbreth to speak before their group Jan. 10 on "The Child and Problems of Youth."

Going Back To School

By EUNICE TALL South Miami Junior High School PTA will have another "Back To School Night" for parents, Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in the school. This program is the second of its kind since the school year began. Parents will be invited to visit their children's classrooms and teachers. A short business meeting will be held in the auditorium previous to the main program. * * * PTA Book Fair Week at South Miami Junior High School is Jan. 16 to 20. All students are urged to participate in this drive by contributing any books they might have. Useful books will be placed in the school library and others will be traded-in to a local book store for other library books. Perrine Elementary Perrine Elementary School is the chartering institution of Cub Scout Pack 20 of District 10. Tuesday, Jan. 17, the Pack's official charter will be presented at the monthly PTA meeting, 8 p.m., in the school cafetorium. The charter will be presented by the following guests: Robert L. Mosley, district representative; Bob Williams, institutional representative; Lyle McNeely, incoming organization chairman; Yale Pearlstein, district commissioner, and Ralph Metzger, chairman of the district. Awards and badges that the boys have earned will also be distributed. Den 5, under the leadership of Mrs. Miles Chenault, will perform a skit entitled "Rocket Blast To the Moon". Cub Master Jack West will conduct the meeting. James Bryant is the committee chairman of the Perrine Cub Pack.
