THE MILK MAY NOT HAVE SPILLED, but driver Joe Fred-erick Ard, of 850 East 8th St., Hialeah, still had something to cry about when his McArthur Dairy truck lost its left front wheel and crashed into the Coral Gables Bakery, 2532 Ponce de Leon Blvd., shortly before 8 a.m., Feb. 8. Ard was injured slightly, his truck suffered an estimated $500 damage and the front of the building and landscaping sustained considerable damage.
25 Automobiles Are Damaged By Vandals
Approximately 25 autos parked in the 200 block of Alcazar and Minorca were damaged by vandals Saturday night. Frank Daniels, 135 SW 25th Rd., one of the victims, was the first to report the vandalism to Coral Gables police. When police investigated, they found that more than two dozen cars had either the wind-shield wipers or radio antennas broken by the vandals. This marks one of the most serious outbreaks of car vandalism in more than a year. Two years ago, two teenage vandals, apprehended later by an alert resident and the police, went around smashing windshields and other windows in dozens of cars.

Opens Mailbox, Finds 15 Wallets

The wallets were all emptied of money and appeared to belong to youths from identification found in them.

Thieves Pull But Fail At Dentists' Offices
Thieves did a lot of prying and breaking over the weekend, but they apparently failed to get anything for all their efforts at the offices of four Gables doctors and dentists. The nearest they came to a full fledged burglary was in the office of Dr. Henry Bryant, 1544 Venera. Dr. Bryant reported to police that nothing was missing, although the thieves had pried open a back door. He found a refrigerator door open when he came in Monday morning. Dr. Richard T. Simpson Jr., 1542 Venera, also reported the front door open, but nothing apparently missing. The same thieves attempted to pry open the rear door to the office of Dr. John H. Hicks, 1534 Venera, and the front door to the office of Dr. J. H. Beckwith, 1540 Venera, with equal lack of success.
South Miami Master Plan You Have It, Now Plan To Use It
By EDWIN KNIGHT "If South Miamians are going to protect their present investments in the city, they must set high standards and high goals and use their master plan." These were the words of Scott Bagby, the author of South Miami's newly acquired master plan, who spoke Monday night to some 300 residents in the auditorium of South Miami Junior High School. Read The Plan Urging that residents read the plan, digest it and then give their opinions to city officials, Bagby said that people build cities, not planners. "The mistakes of the past were the responsibility of the past generation," Bagby told the audience, the responsibility for the future is yours. You are at the crossroads now. The change is coming. Will it be a change for the better or for the worse?" Bagby was invited here from Grand Rapids, Mich., for the second meeting to introduce the plan to interested residents. He spoke on the plan for about an hour and a half, later answering questions from the audience. He used about 15 maps and graphs in his talk to illustrate what the future South Miami could look like. Logical Limits Using the boundaries of Red Road, the Palmetto Expressway, Snapper Creek Canal and the Coral Gables Waterway as logical limits for the South Miami service area, Bagby said that both county residents and South Miamians could be greatly helped by the annexation. The millage of the city could be dropped from 9 1/2 to 1 1/2 tax mills with the annexation, he said, or go up to 4 1/2 mills with voted bond issues to better the city. The county residents could be helped by paying lower fire insurance rates, having more services and more and better zoning and planning. "The boundaries of South Miami are the most irregular of any city in the United States," Bagby told the homeowners, "A logical service would include squaring off the boundaries and acquiring more land." In sound economic planning, it is more important where a building is than what it is, he stated. South Miamians must begin sorting out the pieces and commence making substandard housing pay its way in the city.
