She is the subject this week of a preview of the first annual presentation of the Coral Gables Garden Club's Flower Show in cooperation with the City of Coral Gables. The gigantic show will take place Friday and Saturday Feb. 24 and 25, at the Masonic Temple, 41 Valencia Ave. Donation is 50 cents for adults, 25 cents for children. In the same year she won the Tri-color award (highest) at the Metropolitan Miami Flower Show. Her entry was a design "Shin-Nageire," a Japanese arrangement using Vanda orchids and Jatropha, a rare Japanese shrub. Two years ago Mrs. Ballard introduced the first "Ikebana International", Japanese flower arrangements, in Coral Gables and organized a group (closed at 20 members) of Coral Gables and Miami women as members. She instructs them once a month in the Japanese art of flower arranging. She is a member of the board of the Coral Gables Garden Club, chairman of decorations. One of the most interesting of Mrs. Ballard's accomplishments is her Japanese Garden complete with tea house, in the garden of their home on Minorca Ave. Many garden clubs and other groups have been invited to visit this unique place. Mrs. Ballard is a member of the Florida State and National Associations of Parliamentarians and is parliamentarian for the West End Garden club of which she is a past president. The Ballards are the parents of a daughter, Jetta, who majored in art and interior design at college and is now Mrs. Marvin McCormick of Orange, Va., and the mother of two boys. Their son, M. C. Ballard is with the Lockheed Aircraft Corp., Pleasantville, Calif. He is married and the father of four, three girls and a boy. MRS. BALLARD
