What's Your Problem?

By JOSH PERKINS Syndicated By Perkins Enterprises Hampstead, Vermont Dear Uncle Josh, I am planning a party to celebrate Washington's Birthday. Could you make some suggestions for a suitable celebration? A Patriot Dear Patriot, I recall a time back in Vermont when we all made powdered wigs out of spun maple sugar, but this proved pretty messy and probably would not prove practical in South Florida, as I understand it. You could, probably, achieve the same effects with Spanish Moss. To dramatize the history-making feat of our First President crossing the Delaware, you could no doubt have your guests don these wigs and set out in row boats on Biscayne Bay, landing on Miami Beach. Once disembarked there you could enjoy the attractions in a festive mood. It would be wise to provide each guest with one of those new plastic bags in which he could place his Spanish moss wig in the bottom of the boat while ashore. The wigs then could be donned for the return trip which will climax a memorable evening in memory of the Father of Our Country. Uncle Josh * * * Dear Uncle Josh, I am a 17-year-old boy in the sixth grade. Most of the kids in my room are 12 and 13 and don't know that I am so much older than they are. I have a birthday coming up and Mom insists that we have a big barbeque for my entire homeroom. I go along with her idea about the party but I wonder what the rest of the girls and boys will think of me when they find out how old I am. Will they think I've roped them in all these years by pretending not to be their senior? Overage Dear Overage, You could not have gotten away with this deceit without your mother's help, and she is obliged to rally round you now that this crisis has occurred. Both of you should be very ashamed of what you have done. But this is a time for family unity. Have the party as planned but do not have any athletic events such as the three-legged race or anything of that nature as your advanced physical prowess would soon be evident and give you away. After the party, enroll as fast as you can in one of those ICS courses. You've seen their advertisements—"Become a High School Graduate at Home." Thus, unknown to your friends, you will gain your proper grade level. They will be surprised, of course, but they will be pleased, too, if they are true friends and I am sure they are from what you have told me.
