Color Film Will Show Zoo Collecting Journey
A color film of one of the most courageous zoo-collecting expeditions of our times will be personally presented by Dr. William G. Conway at 8 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 22, in the Coral Gables High School auditorium, LeJeune and Bird Roads. Dr. Conway is associate director, New York Zoological Society, and curator of birds at the Bronx Zoo. His film "To the Highest Andes for the Rarest Flamingo" was made at a salty lake 15,000 feet above the Florida flamingo habitat. He collected, alive, specimens of the James Flamingo, until recently believed extinct. To Conduct Seminar At the Museum of Science and Natural History, Vizcaya, he will conduct a public question and answer seminar at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 23. This is for laymen interested in the natural sciences. Funds will be used by the sponsoring Zoological Society of Florida in its capacity of friend of the Crandon Park Zoo. Tickets are $1 at the doors. Bird Collection Dr. Conway is internationally eminent among ornithologists as the curator of one of the greatest bird collections of the world. He has led several major treks for rarities to keep the Bronx Zoo outstanding in showing species previously little known or unknown. His success in keeping alive difficult species is founded on his ability for field study.
